Isn't there also currently this "10 percent rule" where breweries cannot make more than 10% of their sales directly to the consumer, therefore needing the distributor-wholesale relationship for the other 90%?
I've heard about that... but I think it might be people getting mixed up with the new law that applies to distilleries and wineries, but not breweries.

The laws need to change. I recently read a report by the texas craft brewers guild(i think thats who wrote it) about the impact a few changes in the laws would have.
and this paragraph from the article is why Bud is doing this bullshite:
quote:
Demand is, in fact, booming. Even in a stagnate economic environment, craft beer has managed year-over-year double-digit growth throughout the 2000s. In 2011, craft beer sales by volume rose 13 percent over the
previous year. In relation to the overall beer market, these gains translate to a 5.7 percent
market share by volume, and a most-impressive 9.1 percent market share by dollars. Should this pace
be maintained, market share by volume will top 10 percent by 2016, a
huge leap from 2007’s 3.7 percent market share.
it's not about making good beer to Budweiser, it's about slowing the growth of crafts. I don't give a shite how their beer tastes, I'll never again buy BMC products when they use these kinds of tactics.

You guys are so funny.
If you had a business and could develop as much market share as possible, you'd do it.
I'm not saying we should like Bud or the company, but the bitterness toward a company that is trying to make as much $$ as possible is the way things work.

while this is true for most businesses, I don't see it for craft beer. For breweries making craft beer (not all, but the vast majority) the goal is to make exceptional beer, not exceptional profit. That is why brewers will go out of their way to help other brewers out, sharing techniques and equipment along the way.
This isn't like the battle between Apple and Android for phone sales, wheere you are going to have one phone for a long time. Just last week, on a four day trip to San Diego, I went to six different breweries and had beer from several others. I support them all. I met a Stone brewer while drinking a beer at Iron Fist Brewing. They support each other. There is no "kill the rest" mentality like there is with In-Bev and MillerCoors.

I understand what you are saying.
These craft companies that are into the commune type style of business is fine. They made that choice and good for them.

This. You ever see an Apple and Android collaboration phone? Didn't think so.

No, but I did see a Taco Bell / KFC collaboration drive-through once.

I hope they don't screw up Goose Island Christmas and their stouts. And, if their going to buy it,
I hear goose island is pretty incredible. But, i did listen the brewing network where they were interviewing the owners of goose island. The guys son quit as soon as Bud bought them, and started his own company. The goose island rep said they are committed to keeping everything the same, but admitted they have less control over new brews. Says that everything takes a little longer, because it has to go through a "board meeting" or a committee now.

My problem is with their methods.
- produce cheap, shitty product
- push mom & pops out of the way
- sell by marketing instead of merit

BMC is the Wal-Mart of Beer. I like it. I still drink BMC products from time to time such as at Tailgates, Fishing and Camping, but know what it is everytime I purchase these products.

I try to avoid them for the most part too.

Abita isn't going to disappear. The bar will just charge more.I agree that Bud will compete against themselves, and if anything, may just push customers to more craft beers.
Anyway, this board is more fricking drink board than food. I have never seen so many pretentious motherfrickers about some beer. If you want to be a drink snob, then pony up some cash and review expensive whisky, not some fricking dogfish head canebreak abita amber.
