All-

Looking for some beer recommendations from the pros here on F&B. I went through a multi year phase of not drinking beer (vodka was my choice) and want to start enjoying it again. I also moved from Chicago to Atlanta suburbs so outside of Sweetwater I’m new to the beer scene down here. I will not drink anything sweetwater so please don’t recommend that!

In Chicago I liked 3-Floyd’s Gumballhead and Left Hand Brewery Good Juju. Im looking for something “refreshing” that I can drink after yard work, at the pool, on the golf course, etc.

What you say??

Don’t over think it. Grab some Mich Ultra and enjoy yourself.

I guess I should have said that I have a case of light in my fridge that i drink currently. But it’s not as refreshing as something like a summer shandy.

Try all their stuff.

Most of Terrapin’s offerings are good.

Metro Atlanta breweries include Monday Night, Red Brick, Red Hare, Scofflaw, Wild Heaven.......

Keep driving and go to Asheville for a weekend. Incredible beer scene. Burial did a collaboration with Creature Comforts that was great.

As for ATL brews, I'm a big fan of Arches. You can pick up 6 packs from the brewery on your way back from the airport (it's like 2 miles away) and they will even mix the packs so you can get a variety to try.

Look at saisons, kolsches, pilsners, Berliner weisses, goses

Typically these are lighter beers that are refreshing. Saisons typically are a little more spicy. BW and goses will lean toward the sour side. Kolsches and pilsners are going to be pretty clean. Best thing is to go somewhere that serves flights and see which style speaks to you

Most of the Kroger stores in Atlanta have the build your own six pack area. I'd recommend starting there and just follow your nose. Tastes are subjective so dig in and enjoy your "research" through trial and error.

There is a barrel aged old ale from Straight to Ale called Unobtanium that I really liked. It's definitely not a yard work beer but one to keep in mind. They're an Alabama brewery but you can find it around Atlanta at places like Hop City.

Abita doesn't get much love, but To-Gose is refreshing on a hot day.

But so is Corona/Landshark/Shock Top, etc.

Burial distributes to Atlanta, though everytime I've been in Atlanta the stores have limited quantities. They have a honey saison that is outstanding, and a perfect summer beer.

Corona is awful IMO. Dos Equis Amber is the best "Mexican" beer, but I wouldn't consider it "refreshing." If you want to go that route, try Estrella Jalisco.

A whitbier is generally the best option for a refreshing but good quality beer for chilling in the backyard after mowing. At least, this is what I have found over the years.
