While I applaud you observing a day of importance, I pray also that you offset that added load on the cardiovascular system with some modest aerobic exercise. Which gas station do you believe has the best fried chicken?

One of my favorite fried chickens comes from The Dinner Bell in McComb, MS, where it is served on a delightful device called the Lazy Susan. Likely an American invention of the 19th century, the revolving table was probably first invented by the Oneida community in upstate NY. These fanatics were communalists in every sense, so much that they shared spouses. Monogamy was thought to be selfish and, believing the end times to be nigh, and children undesirable, the men tried their best to practice coitus reservatus. How this life on the precipice translated into dinnerware, I can make no such connection.

Anyway, now you will find more Lazy Susans at Chinese restaurants than American. Although some try to attribute the device to the Chinese, its existence is not documented in China until 1915, when a public health expert condemned their use as a possible vector of disease. The Lazy Susan then shows up in Chinese restaurants in San Francisco in the 50s and had been a part of Chinese American dining since.
