Edley's BBQ in the 12 South neighborhood. Get the brisket sandwich for lunch.

M.L. Rose as well. Pretty good burgers - I think they get their beef supplier is the same people as Burger Up. I get my burgers from there because they're cheaper than Burger Up and about a year ago one of the owners of Burger Up committed suicide with a gun to the head in the middle of the dining room - kinda makes me not so hungry. He wrote W-H-O-R-E (one letter on each of the 5 windowpanes) of the building right before he killed himself. I don't think he and his ex wife (who was part owner as well) were getting along too well.

Cocos Italian market for some inexpensive Italian food.

The wife and I went here over the Christmas Holidays. The food, service, and atmosphere were top notch.

I had some buddies who were really disappointed with Stockyard about 6 months ago. They had heard only good things and I guess it didn't live up to their expectations.

I'm not going to defend them because I've only been once. I can only say that with what we ordered and who our server was that particular night, we thought we got our money's worth.

We also had alot to drink before and during dinner and had a wonderful evening. I know sometimes this can influence my opinion of a place. It was the first "date night" my wife and I had since the birth of our first child and we were on a weekend getaway all to ourselves. Maybe my memory is biased. Just wanted to be honest.

Well your opinion is worth more than mine since you've actually been. I'm just passing along what I've heard. Everyone's experience/expectations will be different.

We gave you a lot of recommendations and options. If you can narrow it down a bit and tell us what you are particularly looking for, that will help some.

I am actually headed to Nashvegas Thursday for the weekend. Planning on Stockyard and Lovelace. Edley's and pucketts sound interesting as well.
I am staying downtown but will be able to venture out if need be, any other suggestions or advice contrary to what I mentioned.
I was actually thinking Jacks to satisfy my BBQ itch before reading this, is there some good BBQ I am missing out on?

I personally like Edley's BBQ the best but I would go to Edley's, Judge Bean's, and Bacon and Caviar before I went to Jack's. Last time I went to to Jack's my brisket was pretty bad, full of fat. Haven't been back since. My buddies say Martin's is the best but it's further out of town. I've never been to Martin's.

The Loveless Cafe, be prepared to wait 2 hours for food, especially breakfast on a weekend. It is like going to a pancake place in Gatlinburg can be a crazy wait sometimes.

I'm going to sound like that guy, but it was much better before it was bought out and expanded. We used to eat there once a week when my dad's cousin ran the kitchen. The quality of the biscuits and preserves has taken a nose dive, as has the chicken liver. The place really isn't worth the drive as it's just become a big tourist destination now.

Middle Tennessee isn't exactly known for its brisket. The only thing our family ever eats is pulled pork that's been over direct heat with not much smoke flavor. Add some sauce and some sweet cornbread and you're good to go. The best place used to be Herbert's down in Franklin, but I think they closed up a few years ago.

We were in Nashville over the summer & ate at Jack's on Broadway. It was wonderful. I would say it is, no question, one of the top three BBQ restaurants I've ever been, which is quite a few. We were in a large group, so we ordered an array of different styles of BBQ Jack's offered, and sides, as well. Everything I tasted was excellent; so much so, we went back twice during our stay. Not only is the food wonderful, Jack's has an awesome atmosphere, very laid back, and the entire staff is extremely helpful, & genuinely friendly. It's just a great place to enjoy top-notch BBQ.
