She perhaps could have ordered it and asked for it to be put in a doggie bag immediately.

Stupid rule for the restaurant though.

As an operator I agree but times are weird right now. Supply chain and labor issues are making us do crazy things. I would have politely asked for an explanation.

That’s an awesome response

But the desired result could have been achieved without this.

Why would you celebrate your wife going full harpy bitch on some employee merely following their company’s policies?

Went in and bought a lot of furniture from a store in Metairie 3 weeks ago. This past weekend, I stopped back in during what is their biggest sale weekend of the year to buy a small decorative item I regretted not buying 3 weeks ago.

Their computers had just gone down when I went to purchase it. I asked if I can write a check or give cash instead, assuming it was just that they can't run CC. They said it was an inventory thing - they need to know what leaves the store. Totally fine, so I asked if they can just write the item number down (they ring everything up by item #) in a notebook, along with the cash, and then when the computers are back up ring it in as if it was a live sale happening and place the cash into the register. No dice. I was not allowed to buy the item.

The computers remained down for two more days, through the weekend, and they didn't close up shop or anything. They spent 3 days letting people come in, but unable to purchase or even place a hold anything. Strangest way to handle a computer issue I've ever seen.

I'll never understand this, it's very unlikely that the person your wife was talking to was the person who created the rule.

I'm laughing. Karen corporate has met Karen logical.

I think a lot of folks just don't have enough sense to rub between a few nickels. I had a similar situation yesterday. Needed a repair part for some construction equipment. Called up the mfg of the part (not the OEM of the equipment) and gave them a part number.

"We can't sell that to you".

Me: "I know it's a proprietary part number, but you catalog that part with a normal part number, just sell me that one"

Them "No we cant do that"

me: "so I'll have my assistant call back looking for a 95mm doohickey with a soldered plug and you'll sell it to me but not on this call"

them "yes"

?????????????

In the OP, the hostess could've (a) made a nice tip for facilitating something (b) passed you off to the bartender and he could've made the tip.

My patience for stupidity is fast shrinking.

Ironically there was a multi page thread blasting a guy out of the water for something similar.
He was in the wrong in that case.

So the message seems to be it is ok to go off on a hostess who has no control if your overall logic is correct.

My wife never raised her voice, she just questioned the insanity of calling an employee standing next to her.

Reminded me of the time I ordered take-out at Popeyes.

Me: "I'd like a two piece white with redbeans/rice".

Employee: "I'm sorry our computer is down".
Me: "I have $12 cash, that should cover it".

Employee: "Did you not understand, our computer IS NOT WORKING"!

BTW, I made a complaint to Popeye's about not having the fish sandwich/shrimp/spicy white chicken..

Not sure how this works, but 06082213937 should get you a two piece and a biscuit with the purchase of a large drink.

Did your wife assume the hostess had control over this policy as dumb as it may seem?

No offense but are you dumb or something.? Do you not understand how these types of businesses work?? I’m starting to sense a pattern with you and you wife…

So not full Karen (not even kinda) and no Krakatoa. You just wanted to tell this lame story.

Isn’t mmmmmbeer a dawg also?

Another pattern?

While this is a similar situation as my furniture store story, this is a bit unrealistic.

A furniture store isn't making anywhere near as many sales per day as Popeyes. Furthermore, a store whose customers mostly take advantage of 0% financing isn't going to get many people offering cash when computers are down. Finally, they have a team of salespeople who have their own desks and are paid via commission. Writing down the handful of cash purchases that would have been made this past weekend to enter in later wouldn't have been difficult.

You're referring to a fast food place that takes literally hundreds of orders per day and has countless customers willing to pay cash. How on earth would they realistically track what was sold all day in a place doing that kind of volume?

Computers aren't just there for the credit card and calculator. They need to ring things through to have accurate inventory. I assure you nobody at Popeyes is losing sleep over your $12, and you just look like a grumpy old turd being a dickhead about it.

Also, unless a manager is on duty, and that manager is a "key" manager, the employee probably can't even get into the register to put the money in.
