They should not have a seat yourself policy past 8:15 if they get touchy about 8:25.
What they did was wrong no matter how you look at this. Manager could have said if you take it to go I will give you a discounted pizza or something along those lines.

SOME Restaurants just pull this sort of BS that other retail establishments don’t.
Imagine being at Albertsons and they close at 9. You get to the register at 9 and they say “nope, closed.”

I did not. Only point of this thread was to notify others here and possibly someone higher up the chain of our experience. I wasn’t looking for anything in return. If it is their policy then so be it but they should be a little more clear to prevent this from happening. I did not see any signage anywhere stating they were not seating anyone after 8:30–only the sign stating seat yourself. The parking lot was at least half full when we got there so there was no indication they were near closing. Pretty sure it was just a few employees that didn’t want to risk staying after 9:00 given that summer is probably slow
