We'll have about 20 people here and plan on:

Charcuterie plates
Mini quiches
Smoked turkey and gravy
Homemade cranberry sauce
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potato casserole
Green bean casserole
Mac and Cheese
Turnip greens
Brussels sprouts
Crescent rolls
Pumpkin roll
Apple pie
Peanut butter pie
Coffee
Tea
Hot spiked apple cider
Whatever's in my bar area

We're going to hope that people take a ton home with them. Except for the leftover booze.

but I don't know why no one can acknowledge that most Thanksgiving dishes kinda blow.

THIS cannot be stated enough. Thanksgiving food is awful. The only 2 things I like are green bean casserole and pie. Turkey should be for sammiches and gumbo only, but my family loves the crap. I'm cooking and hosting this year. I'm just going to grill myself a rib-eye.

You like probably the worst side dish out of all the side dishes. Your opinion of Thanksgiving food has been stricken from the records.

Yeah our thanksgings are always the shite, especially when the whole family gets together. At least 20 things to choose from. Some of my favorites are the shrimp mirliton, gumbo, baked Mac and cheese with gravy from the roast, roast, and the various forms of turkey. My aunt who does the Mac also does a bomb lasagna.
When we stay here we don’t do nearly as much but keep some of the favorites.

Pie is good in my book though I don't consider it a side dish.

My Mom Sucks at Thanksgiving
This is why my wife and I are hosting. I'm smoking the bird on the BGE and handing the drinks. The wife is cooking the sides and desserts. I love smoking food and drinking. The wife loves cooking and baking. Everyone else can just visit and relax... maybe chase around the toddler since he's the only kid, for now, in the family. Win/win for everyone.

Unless you and the wife cook shitty casseroles and dried smoked turkey.

Similar boat. I can't stand casseroles made with cream of crap soup. I just move some food around on my plate, then eat cereal when I get home.

Suck it up, buttercup.

Simplest solution is offer to take over doing the meal and having the event. She will say no, but someday she will say yes.

My whole family sucks at Thanksgiving. We're nothing but a bunch of white people from middle Tennessee that think salt and black pepper are the only acceptable seasonings.

Most of the people coming to our house couldn't boil water without burning it, mother in law included.

This is the time of year when I’m glad to be Cajun. Forget dry turkey, we have turkey and andouille, then ham, and cornbread dressing with crawfish, and some veggie sides. Who says you have to have turkey and casseroles? But you better appreciate your mama.....Santa’s watching.
