It’s too bad you had to get rid of that mannequin. You could’ve dressed him up in festive attire and sat him at the table.

Friend,

Next year, may I suggest, purchase some nice paper at Smythson of Bond Street and have a calligrapher write the words for you. If you are able, take a calligraphy course this off-season and do the calligraphy yourself.

The duck is supposed to evade capture by the OP, but he's doomed to fail. Then the OP is going to psychologically torture the duck (and maybe smack him around a bit) until the duck gives the OP some information on the whereabouts of his friends, plans they've made, etc.
