I had two good experiences at Albertsons last week.

What I wouldn't give to walk into the Albertsons on George O'Neal and see Rose (formerly of Delchamps) at one of the registers again.

I heard Rose tell the manager once to go kiss her arse, and that if he didn't get someone to relieve her so she could go on break that she'd just walk out. I miss Rose

Albertsons is mediocre. Keep in mind that almost EVERYTHING there is previously frozen and more than likely imported. Some imported products are not bad, however. The FDA is pretty strict when it comes to regulating seafood. As a matter of fact, the FDA rejected around 80,000 lbs of Piazza's "Cajun Boy Brand" crawfish meat last year because it contained harmful chemicals. Be sure to know when and where your seafood is coming from.

Those are what I came up with.

The Los Angeles River into the harbor at Long Beach.

Ralph's? good god man, that's as bad as Albertson's or Von's for fresh fish.

Here are places i have tried and really liked:

Downtown:
LA Fish Company

I know a lot of the sushi places shop here.

Santa Monica and Costa Mesa:

Santa Monica Seafood - place is badass

Any of the 4 or 5 Mitsuwa market places around town. Now, they might not know english, but you can find some great fish values.

The fish market in the huge year round farmer's market at 3rd and Fairfax.

Also, Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, and even Gelson's have better seafood than Ralph's. Hell, the prepackaged salmon at Trader Joe's is much better.

There are tons more places, but i just don't know about them yet. It's the second biggest city in America, near the ocean, and full of fruit loops that won't eat meat and tons of fish crazy asians. Of course there are tons of good sources for fish.

it really is amazing....but, heaven isn't cheap. At least you are getting quality, but i wouldn't call it a value place.

I have noticed an massive uptick in the milf population of lakeview in the past ~12 months, which spills over into my seafood markets of choice: Captain Sid's and Schaeffer's. I'm sure the quality is not the same though.

I'm gfamiliar with both LA Fish Company and Santa Monica Seafood. Both are way too far from my house to be a permanent solution to my problem.

Whole Foods, Bristol Farms
I have a Bristol Farms real close to where I live (10-15 minutes). Also, a Whole Foods is pretty close as well (35-45 minutes in normal traffic). I'm going to give them a try.

You guys are missing the point of my thread. I was not touting Ralphs as a good place to buy fish. I was just riffing about the lack of training and knowledge of the guy behind the counter in the meat/fish market.

Of course there are. They just aren't on my side of town.
