I'm a fan of Chilean carmemere, but I haven't tried any of the ones mentioned in the article.

Apaltagua and Lapostolle are respected wineries, so at that price I wouldn't hestitate to buy one if you come across it.

i gotcha. i'll try to find one of those brands but it'll be a tough task here in NWLA i'm guessing.

Has anyone tried the 08 seven deadly zins? I noticed 07 made the list, but I can't find it locally. All I ever see is the 08, so I was wondering how it stacked up.

Thanks.

Haven't tried it yet.

2007 was an extraordinary vintage in California. 2008, on the other hand, was highly irregular. There were some very good wines made that year and some very bad ones.

My guess is that the 2008 will not be as good as the 2007.

I actually printed the whole thing out...and brought it with me to the store...I then gave the print out to the person to which I was giving wine as a gift...

I found #9 Louis Martini cab at my local Rouses for 11.87. I haven't tried it yet but hopefully will tomorrow night.

10. Meiomi Pinot Noir 2008

Tried these two over the weekend. Mrs. Vedder and I really enjoyed the MP Shiraz. Liked the Meiomi Pinot as well but not nearly as much as we did the Shiraz. Will definitely be picking up the Shiraz again.

we drink Seven Deadly Zins quite a bit. one of our go-to wines.

i'm going to hit the stores against this week to pick up a couple of the cabs and malbecs you recommend.

Yeah, I much preferred the Marquis Phillips shiraz as well. I put the Meiomi pinot on the list because it's so hard to find a drinkable pinot noir for under $20. So in that sense the Meiomoi is a very good wine for the price because it's a pinot noir, but the Marquis Phillips shiraz was definitely the better wine IMO.

that's a good point. i don't buy Pinot noir all that often because i've struggled to find one we like enough to buy on a consistent basis--and I rarely spend more than 20$ on a bottle of wine.

Thanks for a great list. My adds...

Banfi Gavi Principessa
Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio
14 Hands Cabernet
Joel Gott Cabernet
Kim Crawford Pinot Noir
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
Saintsbury Pinot Noir Carneros (only under $20 by the case)

I'm a fan as well. Ordinarily this would have made the "best for under $20" list, but I couldn't remember drinking any of the Kim Crawford sauv blanc this year. I tried a number of other New Zealand sauv blancs instead this year, but the Kim Crawford is hard to beat for the quality and price.
