Thanks. Let us know what you think. I have a bottle of Cab and Old Vine Zinfandel. I really like both of them, but am just starting to learn about wine.

I have not tried it. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for it.

3. Bogle Phantom 2009 I like this wine a lot, but it's not easy to find. I preferred the 2008 Phantom, but the 2009 is a nice wine. A blend of 49% old vine zinfandel, 49% petitie sirah and 2% old vine mouvedre. Price: $16
bogle is my house variety.

They make a very nice Petite Sirah as well. I drank a lot of the 2009 Bogle Petite Sirah this past year. And I can usually find it for around $10 here in L.A.

At a party back in July I poured that wine and cabernet sauvignon which cost about twice as much and the Bogle was definitely the favorite of those at the party. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the cab. I bought it at the last minute, kind of spur of the moment, and the name escapes me. I do remember it was about double the price of the Bogle petite sirah.

I know, :csb:

The 2007 "7 Deadly Zins" was one of the best $15 bottles of wine I've ever had.

Just picked up a bottle of Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet because it was on sale, but it was the 2010 instead of the 2009 listed here.

Can't vouch for the 2010. The '09 is barely ready to drink right now, so if you drink the '10 give it a LOT of time to breathe first.

ladytiger, to be honest I rarely buy chardonnays in that price range. When I spend $25-$40 on white wine it tends to be either Sauvignon Blanc from Dragonette, or Rhone-style whites like Viognier from Blair Fox or Roussane from Stolpman. All of those wineries are just a couple of hours up the coast from me and I go there 5-6 times a year. I just buy straight from the wineries.

However, I can give you the names of some respected producers of chardonnay. These are names you can trust. That is not to say that every wine they make is great, but rather that they are consistent producers of quality chardonnay in the price range you specified.

Beringer (Napa Valley)

El Molino (Napa Valley)

Paul Hobbs (Sonoma)

Eric Kent (Sonoma)

Robert Mondavi (Napa Valley)

Sbragia Family (Sonoma)

Shafer (Napa Valley)

Hope this helps.

no doubt. I have that stocked and their Chardonnay as well.

Pops turned me on to it. He went to the winery last year and apparently they are cool as hell. They make good wine and sell a ton, but have no desire to raise prices. I find it to be the most underrated winery out there. The Old Vine Zinfadel is a favorite of mine as well.

Gascon malbec

I know people are on a malbec craze right now and this seems to an ubiquitous wine (along with Alamos), but I just don't think it's all that good.

I had a bottle of the Alamos 2010 malbec earlier in the year and I was MAJOR league disappointed. It was almost undrinkable. And that's weird because I have had some good wines from them in the past.

If I had had a #13 on my list it would have been the Bogle Petite Sirah. And like you, I'm also a fan of their chardonnay. While I'm at it, they make a very nice merlot as well. Haven't tried their zinfandel or their pinot noir. I'll have to give the old vine zin a try.

Do you have any recommendations for a chardonnay in the price range (25-40?

I have to buy my step mother a gift, and she is a serious wine snob.

I looked at the items you listed and none were expensive enough for her, if they had them. yes, she judges a wine by its cost, not its taste. But you know, I just got to get her a gift, not change her snobby ways.

I normally have a guy that picks them out for me but that isnt going to work this time, due to their travel plans.

I listed at least 6 in the previous reply. They all make chardonnays that are well over the $40 price range.
