Murphy’s Seafood, in Hammond, is Closing

This is their last week and they are closing after 63 years. Hate to see another locally owned restaurant, that’s been around for much of my life, close up shop. Have a bit of history there and we would still go occasionally. Coincidentally, we ate there Saturday night, not knowing they were planning to close. Glad we stopped by.

Not sure what the plan is. The Dad was still hanging around during the day, or at least he was doing so a year or so ago. Phil is probably around 80, so I’m sure he’s ready to rest. The son (3rd generation in the restaurant) has primarily been running the restaurant for a while now. He should be in his mid fifties now. Not sure if he wants to take things in a different direction or if he’s just done with the restaurant business. They have rental properties and other business ventures, so maybe he’s just gonna focus on that. All speculation.
I rented an apartment, just behind the restaurant, 45+ years ago. My son cooked at the restaurant around 20 years ago so we go way back. Hate to see them close.

Dude, how is this even possible?
Well, now that I think about it. I’ve been her over 50 years and I’ve never been to Jacmel’s.

I can honestly recommend Jacmel. You will spend $$$ but everything we have eaten there has been good. Very cozy atmosphere

Was never in my rotation, but the food has always been okay when I've gone. Sucks to lose an option that has been around for decades.

we just never go that way and I always lumped it in with places like Don’s…probably wrongly. But I’m happy to be proven wrong maybe I’ll go eat there before it closes

Cgrand, the red gravy and meatballs are true Sicilian style and very good as is the fried seafood.
