They have certain rules when it comes to the burgers at Mugshots. You cant order the burger medium rare. Or medium for that matter. Why do you think that is? It dosent matter how you order it, it usually comes back well done. The patties are pre-formed and frozen as far as I can tell. Easily explains why you cant order your burger the way you want it.

Mugshots is huge in Houston. Great bar scene and the food is much better. The problem is that college kids or anybody else isn't going to Mugshots on a regular basis for alcohol. If that was the case Champps would have never closed, even though the food was bad. You dont go to Towne Center for night life unless you're getting something to eat, and then you move on afterward.

Bump this thread in 18 months.

There are varying procedures regarding cooked-to-order burgers across the board. In some places, it's local law, in others, the restaurant just chooses not to take a risk like that.
I agree that they should just give a disclaimer warning the customer to eat meat below medium at their own risk and let the customer make the decision but it just brings up so many legal problems.

Even if a restaurant warns you that you're at risk for ordering a burger med-rare, many people would still have a case if they got sick from it. I completely understand why restaurants don't want to put themselves in a compromising position as such.

Even when you're buying high-grade ground meat, you don't know who has handled it, how long it may have sat out of refrigeration, etc. Unless you're making your own meat, you just really.. don't know.

Someone ran into my Zeeland St thread saying they'd sue over a caterpillar that likely had nothing to do with the restaurant. See what I mean? Many places won't want to deal with the problems that might arise if someone were to get sick from med-rare hamburger meat.

Temperatures of 160 degrees F are required to kill eColi. In the case of beef, that's medium. IF eColi is existent in the beef they received by some chance, they're not killing it if they're serving it to you med-rare.

No, they wouldn't.

And it would be dismissed with extreme prejudice.

If they insist on drying out their burgers, that's fine. They just won't get my business with much better burgers within 1/2 a mile. They also shouldn't tell you that they will, only to bring out a burger cooked so that it's gray.

Are you part owner of a rival place?

You've been there one time for heaven's sake. Great way to form an opinion of a restaurant.

MEDIUM is not an option at Mugshots. The options are well-done and burnt.

I can't believe I'm catching this much flak for not liking a place. I said they have a crappy burger, which mine was. I gave them props for service and cold beer. I'm giving LL a hard time because I don't think I've ever seen her defend a place as much as she has Mugshots, and I'm surprised of all the places to defend, she's coming to their defense.

And no, I don't own any other burger places in town, but if I did, the burger would be better than Mugs.

ETA: If you're defending Mugs, would it even rank in your top five or six places to get a burger in BR?

Because I hate most hamburgers and can actually eat theirs. That's huge for me.

For the record, I don't care if you don't like Mugshots I just don't like when people say Five Guys is better quality because I didn't find that to be remotely near the case.

I like Mugshots. I will say that the kitchen was struggling the first month they were open, but I gave them a second shot and have been back several times. The burgers and appetizers are good, I have not tried other menu items yet. I also like the atmostphere and the guitar player they bring in on Friday and Saturday is entertaining. Decent place to go for young professional that will not be shoulder to shoulder packed and non-smoking.

I do take issue with that. Five guys uses fresh formed patties as far as I can tell. I like each of them, because they are different dining experiences. For a place that prides themselves on their burgers, I kind of expect them to make their own patties in house. FWIW Mason's is my favorite burger in BR.

Went for the 3rd time. Only once was it good. Waited 45 minutes for my burger and it came out cold. How does a half burnt burger come out cold?

I'm not part owner. Hell, I couldn't even pick the owners out of a lineup. But I will go to Mugshots 100 times before going back to 5 guys.

I like the burgers and the other sandwiches at Mugshots. If defending the place make me part owner, I can't wait for my ownership checks to start rolling in.

I agree. Luckily, they're two completely different types of restaurants. That's why this thread was dumb to begin with. Five Guys is a fast food joint. Mugshot's is a sit-down restaurant.
Five Guys did not taste BAD to me in any way, but eating fast food as a whole is only done in desperation by me.. and if I am doing it, it's because I really don't need to be dropping money at a restaurant. Like I said, it was $22 for us to eat there and we split fries. $22 is not fast food prices..

This is where the comparing of the two comes in. We spent $25 after tip at Mugshot's. If I'm spending $22-$25 anyway, I'd rather it be somewhere where I am being waited on, getting refills brought to me, get my own fries, and don't have to clean my mess when I leave. (And it doesn't hurt that I prefer their food)

I have no Five Guys hate. I just don't agree with the prices and won't pay them. If the prices were lowered, I might go more.

Don't lie. I saw the top of a chef hat the other day behind the kitchen wall. I know it was you cooking back there.
