I'm willing to bet the waiter was correct.

You are wrong and he was a crappy waiter.

I had a waiter do that to me once over a bottle of wine. He opened it and poured it into my glass. I tasted it and told him the wine was bad (heavily oxidized) and I wanted another bottle. He told me he couldn't do that without the chef's permission. He went back into the kitchen (without the wine) and came back out and told me the chef said no. I told him to pour a glass of wine for the chef and take it back to him so the chef could taste it. He did that and came back out with another bottle of wine and the chef's apology.

Overrated:
Ye Olde College Inn
Court of Two Sisters
Russel's Marina Grill

Underrated:
RocknSake (just because I think everyone thinks its too "hip"...the sushi is damn good)
Ralph's On the Park (dinner)
Cochon Restaurant

No Maple Street Cafe on Maple Street next to Frescos and the coffe shops.

It has a great menu.

Actually, I would put this in the other column. It's average sushi at best. Sushi Brothers, Wasabi, Hanna (sp?) are all better.

I agree...and I find it pricey.

Sushi Brothers, Kyoto, and Horinoya are all great.

Kanno in the Metry is very underrated.

I know where Maple St. Cafe is, I was just confused as to why on the other post you said you didn't consider that a restaurant.

Why let a customer taste the wine first, if this is going to be your procedure?

I'm writing off Sushi Brothers.

I've been there at least 5 times, and have never gotten a decent piece of fish. It's got weird textural issues. The tuna is always sort of spongy, for lack of a better description.

Really? Thats the first bad thing I think I have ever heard of in that place....the FEMA Roll is the best roll I have ever had in this city.

I have been wanting to try Tekumi...but I have not gotten around to it. Looks like it could be good.

Someone in this thread said Manale's is overrated. The problem with that thinking is that they have some of the best raw oysters on planet earth.

I disagree vehemently. I think the quality of the fish is what separates it from the other hack jobs sushi joints around the city.

That was me...I thought it was going to be superb, since their (at least self-imposed) claim to fame was being the epicenter of bbq shrimp. Raw oysters aren't my thing, so I can't comment on that.

Mr. B's bbq shrimp blew it out the water...and I really can't remember much else about the meal - except for hearing some gunshots a few blocks away when walking out to my car!

Seriously. Evidently the waiter had been going through the ritual of pouring a small amount of wine in the glass, etc without any understanding of why it was being done. I guess no one had ever sent a bottle back before.
