This thread is the prime example of how shitty Baton Rouge Mexican food is and how closeted people from Baton Rouge are regarding Mexican food, and how jewish they are about pricing. Because Superior get a lot of hate, MAINLY because of the cost. And i agree, Superiors food is not worth the cost, but it is at the top of Tex Mex food, if you take cost out of the criteria.
mi padres, casa maria, las palmas, etc. all would be out of business in most citys. hell Casa and Los palmas are down to a single location now.
When i go to my wifes home town in podunk texas, the 3 local tex mex places would beat every mexican place in baton rouge. And not to mention the authentic taquerias they have.

So wait a minute. Are you implying that a town in Texas has better Tex Mex than Baton Rouge LA? No fricking way. And Shreveport Mexican without Ki Mexico isn’t shite. Hell Baton Rouge’s Superior is better than Shreveport’s. Which isn’t saying anything

OP asked about BR... not texas.. not shreveport... BR!
My vote goes to Tio's or Blue corn (both very good for a variety of reasons)
The only reason I go to superior is because its close to the house and the atmosphere with a large group is better than most places can offer in BR.

He wants to give a gift card, the only choices is Superior because of the atmosphere and the food. Like i said even though it is over priced, is still be best Texmex BR has to offer.

It's really solid. Not saying it's going to be the best Mexican you've ever had, obviously, but having had a fair amount of Mexican food while traveling, I think it would at least put itself in the category of "I'm willing to suggest it to people if they ask for a Mexican rec in Baton Rouge" for you

I forgot about Blue Corn. It’s very good, love their blue corn enchiladas and ceviches.

well good. and the defensive asses of BR always take this the wrong way. I want BR to have good restaurants, and with this topic, im talking about the cheap hole in the wall places. BR has taquerias like that but not texmex joints. Its weird.

Speaking of, El Rio Grande might be the most overrated restaurant I've ever been to, at least of those not named Fleur de Lis
Posted on 8/25/21 at 1:09 pm to Joshjrn
have you heard my El Rio Grande story?
I posted on the OT back in 2005-06ish asking about good mexican places because i was a student and TD was a new place college kids conversed. I was repeatedly told to go to el rio. Me and my sister packed up and hauled our arse all the way over to Airline from campus. Seemed like it was going to be what i was looking for, grungy hole in the wall mexican. My first bite of salsa.....that shite they served us was fricking Pace Picante sauce. I am not joking. Idk if they ran out that night and served Pace or what but it was that distinct flavor of Pace. I have never gone back. Im gonna try and look for the thread... it might be under my old username.
ETA: looks like they dont have anything from 2014 prior i can search for.

El Rio Grande is fricking terrible
And if you want to go back further than that, you kinda have to use google search. The board's search function can't handle it

This thread in two pages has gone from “where should I get a gift card for Tex mex” to “BR has shitty Tex mex” to “I once made ceviche on a boat”.
I love this site sometimes.
