Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Agave. It is over priced and very mediocre at best.

La Hacienda is good.
El Paso is good.
La Carreta is decent. Nothing special.

The spot you’re thinking of is probably Pasados. They’re gone.

Sucks, totally bland food. They use the cheapest meats and charge the same as all of the other places. You also don't have to go on the 'North' side of town, you're better off avoiding that area most of the time if you can.

Picante off of Gloria Switch, a bit of a drive but the rellanado de res is unbelievable. If you like guacamole get the table side, it comes with homemade chips which taste like cardiac arrest.

La Morenita at 412 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy (near I-10 compared to the other places mentioned) will be the best Mexican food in the city. It's where the local Mexicans eat and shop, so it's the real deal. It's so authentic that there's very little English spoken. When I'm there, they usually have to find an employee that speaks even a tiny bit of English.

They're all pretty much the same.
La Pagua is the best but not by a huge margin.

El Paso has the worst food, but has the best atmosphere.

La Fonda is a social scene. They have decent margaritas, but they're overrated. The food is meh. Best thing on the menu is Fried Chicken.

There's no Houston-level Mexican to be had in Lafayette.

Edit: I've never been to La Morenita

I’d go to Chuy’s or La Pagua. Agave sucks unless you’re just looking for atmosphere and margaritas.

I always thought La Morenita was a supermercado or something. I didn't realize it was a restaurant.

It is a grocery store with a little cooking area. I get there marinated taco meat and do street tacos at home too.
