I would assume since it's a decent sized city in the South there has to be some good food.

You could always have your car stolen for an interesting experience.

Lived in Memphis for a year and was fairly impressed with the dining scene. They have some really good restaurants.
Coastal Fish Company - popular place in Shelby Farms Park. Ate there twice and it was great both times.
Andrew Michael - upscale Italian spot in Brookhaven Circle that was very very good
Hog and Hominy - across the street from Andrew Michael and started by the same two dudes. Great drinks, great apps, great pizzas.
Some other great spots in the downtown area:
Amelia Gene’s - contemporary fine dining type of place. They do a Thursday tasting menu special that was really good when I went. They also have a normal menu.
Catherine and Mary’s - same owners as Andrew Michael and H&H. Italian place downtown.
Flight - does flights of small plates. Heard awesome things about it.
Itta Bena - I never went here but people I worked with always said it was great. It’s on Beale Street above BB Kings
Porch and Parlor - nice steakhouse in Overton Square
Folk’s Folly - old school steakhouse that is a Memphis favorite. I thought porch and parlor was a lot better.

Thanks. I might be there for a while if I decide to jump on this job offer.

Gibson’s Donuts is awesome. If you tell them it’s your first time they’ll throw a donut at you.
The cake style donuts are my favorite. As mentioned Gus’s Fried Chicken is really good. There are a few around Memphis metro with the original out in Mason. There’s a good burger joint called Dyers in Collierville. Been around a long time.

Mortimer’s restaurant is my absolute favorite
They have something for everyone
Locally owned and been around a very long time
Enjoy!

Well yeah
Better demographics, slightly better climate and better topography

Agreed. The only locations that are really great imo are the original location in Mason, and the one on Front St. in Memphis

I have a friend in Houston that says they have the best fried chicken. I assume the Houston locations are affiliated?

All great recs. I love Itta Bena. It's right above BB King's bar and has a sultry blues vibe. Great southern steakhouse style restaurant.
The Memphis restaurant scene is growing fast.

There are a lot of good places to eat.
What part of town will you be in?

I'll be working on the Arkansas side of the border. No idea where I'm going to live yet. I've heard there are some dicey areas of town so if I have to have a bit of a commute to live somewhere safe then that's what I'll do.
