If in Memphis gotta hit up Neely's or Rendezvous. It's a rite of passage.
There are better restaurants, but these are staples.

you looking for fine dining? If so, I'd check out McEwen's on Monroe or Felicia Suzzane's (she's from LA...good food/shitty service). A step down from that, you can go to Automatic Slim's or Itta Bena (above BB King's). Spindini on South Main is good too. Casual dining - Majestic Grill is good so is Local.
ETA: just an FYI, Rendezvous only serves lunch on Fridays and Saturdays.

+1 for majestic grille. Have been there twice and it was good both times.

good call glassman. I forgot about iris. I've never eaten there, but a lot of my friends have and have only good things to say about it.

he mentioned Iris in his original post, so I didn't repeat. Plus it's in midtown and he was looking for downtown spots. IMHO there are two restaurants in Memphis that stand out above everyone else - Iris and Andrew/Michael. They are both on incredible tears right now. Iris is in midtown and A/M is in east memphis.

Don't know if you have the time, but it is worth the trip to Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana, in Germantown (Memphis.) Unfortunatly they are not open tonight. I know what you are thinking about Mexican in Memphis, but this place is worth it…
