I would still go to Rendevous as well. It is likely overated, but the ribs are solid and I like dry ribs.

As mentioned before, close to the Peabody and a neat experience as well.

Another place I was told i "had to go to"

Nashville food was on another level, and was just a more refined type of city. The Catbird Seat was fing phenomenal, Pinewood social had some of the best fried chicken of my life, and Husk had a very southern menu with strong flavors and lard butter!

Memphis BBQ Top 3 quote: Rendezvous is a cool experience. The ribs won't blow you away, but it's a cool place, great atmosphere and service. It gets way too much hate. popular = must hate it

To be fair, they dont smoke their ribs, they use charcoal, which causes a line in the sand for some people.

sever all ties to whoever told you that. The only thing separating Huey's from an Applebees is that it's locally owned

I'll be watching this thread as I'm going there with the gf in a couple of weeks as well.

I've found out the crawfish festival will be going on at Overton Square while we're there, so that's good. But I also want to dabble in this "world famous" Memphis BBQ. I'll be pretty biased as I'm used to TX bbq, but I'll keep an open mind.

She's one of my best friends from law school and is born and raised in Memphis. I figured I could trust her. You would have done the same.

We're talking I went to her fams engagement party in Memphis Saturday night, after I had Corky's for lunch, and they had it catered for dinner. she really does like it.

I'll be there next year for her wedding, so i will ask here before I go

Memphis BBQ and Texas bbq are different styles. For instance, Texas is much more based around brisket. I don't think I ever even had brisket in Memphis.

Pretty much. Huey's is kind of like Corky's, in that they were both really damn solid when they had one location. Hopefully Central isn't experiencing the same thing.

I would say Texas seems more focused on beef and Memphis seems more focused on pork.

I ate at Rendevous once and it was ok but overhyped. I did love some Corkys but I've been there enough as it is. I really wanna try the Commisary though for sure. We stopped at Interstate BBQ on the way to Omaha a few years back but I don't remember much special about it.

I will always prefer Memphis style to Texas BBQ. Only people from Texas think it's better.

This statement may be applicable to more than just bbq.

Texas has no trees worth a shite so Cookie had to bbq the cowboy's beef over some bunk arse mesquite. Then, in typical Texas fashion, they try to convince the world that mesquite is actually worth a shite for bbqing. It's not. It sucks.
