Nope just rubbed with oil and some chicken shite I got as a gift for Christmas. Let it sit in the fridge for a few hours then on the smoker.

What is the grilling surface area?
Also, is the heat distribution pretty even from top rack to the grill grate? How would rate its searing and general grilling capabilities compared to a regular charcoal grill?
ETA: Sorry for all the questions, this seems like it may be exactly what I want as far as ease, ability to smoke and ability to act like a regular grill.

If you take both upper grates and put them on the same level, it's a full 560"

I smoked some chicken breast on the main grate and a pork loin on the upper. I haven't noticed any difference in temp between the 2 racks.

It will certainly sear the hell out of a steak. I've set it to 700 and it blew right past that and topped out at 762.
Grills just fine to me, at temps below 500 degrees the fan is still functional so even with the lid open it will attempt to maintain temp.

Does it flame up as much as their promo videos and give you a good direct heat source?

At 225-230 I would guess I'd get between 12-14 hours. This is with layering wood chunks in the chimney as well.
Thats good to hear, I was seeing 7-8hrs I thought but maybe thats at higher temps. 12-14hrs would be good for most smokes tho. If I can get enough to hit the minimum I was going to order some of the gravity smokers and Kamado Joe grills for some baw discounts. Anyone interested nolagt3 at gmail.

That's the part that surprised me. I thought it was smoke and mirrors from the videos, but it definitely does. At high temps the fat and juices that drip into the catch basin catch fire. First steaks I did it flared up great at 700.

Do you know how much the discount will be? It might be enough for me to ditch the GMG earlier than I expected

I dont want to post it online because of MAP pricing rules, but shoot me a email I have a full KJ and Master built baw price list. Uncle JackD can vouch for me, he is in on it too I just have to hit a good sized minimum.

I've been interested in this but started following a group on Facebook that's dedicated to the gravity series. See a lot of mixed reviews that has me hesitant to purchase.

It seems from a little looking in the one group I just checked out:
Some have had flair ups/ fire in the pit from grease. Maybe from not being cleaned enough or from real long cooks and then craning the temp. Not sure how much it happens or more specifics about that. I’m not sure if that is something that happened with these pellet type of grills or not...seems some have said there other brand did the same. I don’t have any experience with any of them.
There is some metal sleeves or something in the burn chamber with the charcoal and wood that some have had burn a hole through. It’s surrounded by the ceramic fire box I think so it’s not a big deal (I think master built said the same) but there are some people making replacement parts out of better metal that they are selling.
The lid of the fuel chamber might loose some paint from the heat? Rubbing some veg oil on it prevents rust.
It is a cheaper grill so there is some expectation that you get what you pay for meaning is not a Yoder that cost 2k so the material is not going to be like a Yoder. But they still love them and swear by them vs there other pellet grills they came from. If the master built was built like a tank it would cost more.
Is that what you gather too Hat Tricks?

This is what makes me really nervous about picking one of these up, Was thinking of getting one to replace my aging pellet. It seems this sleeve that someone is making should be a mod you do before you start smoking with it. I’ve not been impressed with how my neighbors 560 has been holding up, I would definitely go 1050 if I got one of these.
