Went to Mason's Grill for the first time for a Saturday Morning Brunch. It was a party of 3. We got there at about 11:15, and waited for 15 minutes, so not a bad wait time to be seated.

Service: Poor. Waitress was an Order Taker, nothing more.

Appetizer: Broiled Oysters. They were horrible, they were oysters covered with a crap ton of tasteless mixed cheese melted on top. No flavor at all.

Drinks: Bloody Mary's. They were decent, but too thin. They use a tomato mix, and then throw in all the Build-Your-Own ingredients. So while there was flavor, the texture was lacking, and the tomato juice itself was underwhelming.

It took 45 minutes for our Entrees to come out.

Saw that the bartender who made our drinks had a horrible habit of scratching his nose and not washing his hands.

Combo Fried Seafood Platters: Hushpuppies were hard, and not moist. The seafood batter had little flavor, and the fries were...meh. Came out all cold.

Cajun Shrimp Burger: The only thing that came out hot. I think all of our food was held up while they did the burger. It was ordered medium-rare, and came out well done. The shrimp cheese mixture is odd, and had little flavor. It reminded me of the broiled oysters we had earlier.

Seafood Augratin Benedict: Truly disgusting. It has a foul smell to it, there were only 5 little crawfish tails in it. The herbs seem to be there for the sole purpose to overpower the senses. The poached eggs were actually cooked perfectly. But, the whole plate was cold. I didn't eat a thing.

It came with a side, and so I got a pancake. The pancake was dense, and hard to cut with a fork alone. And it was very chewy.

Overall: There were too many rave reviews for this place, and I have no idea why people line up for it. Not worth the $75 for 3 people.

My experience there was far from miserable, but I also am wondering why this is some huge destination in BR. Meal was fine for what it was, but it was an altogether cheap and fairly trashy place

You used the word "horrible" twice, mentioned "disgusting" and "foul".

What did the manager have to say about your epic experience?

I'm with you. I've had brunch there twice now on Sundays after football games and both times I left unimpressed. The waitstaff is full of hot girls .. other than that, I can't see the appeal of this place. Food was not good (burger first time .. crab cakes benedict second time) and the service was mediocre at best.

You would think from the praise it gets that it would at least have a unique atmosphere or some tradition to it, or be in a favorable location, but it might as well be in an old Denny's situated in an industrial park. It amazes me how receptive people in BR can be to mediocrity (and I realize that last sentence may draw me some fire

Same here. I have never been repulsed or anything by it, but I certainly don't understand why some people in BR act like it's the best restaurant in the city.

The food has always just been okay to me, and like you said, the place itself is trashy. I can do a hole-in-the-wall with kickass food.. but Mason's is a 30-minute drive for me to wait for a table and eat okay food in a run down old place.

Good hamburger, can't really speak for the rest.

Maybe views are skewed because people are smashed for brunch.

When the girl asked if everything is alright (seeing are plates barely touched), we said the food was cold, and not very good. She brought the check, never brought a manager over. By that time, after such a long meal time without eating much, we left instead of finding a manager.

Always ask for a manger if you feel you were wrong to the point of writing a bad review.

I've been twice for brunch in recent months and thought it was good, but the wait time is usually ridiculously long with people just sitting around drinking champagne. Definitely not worth the wait. Also that shrimp burger is overrated, IMO. I did enjoy the bloody marys.

Perhaps Mason's is not for the clock watching, crawfish counting crowd.

It's not fine dining, but I've enjoyed very inexpensive happy hour beers and a few of the BBQ Burgers. The ribs aren't bad either. I wasn't overly impressed with the chicken wing frenzy however.

Yeah, Mrs. Corridor and I don't care for crowded places with long waits, so we keep passing on Mason's for places like LaReyna, Bay Leaf or even Uncle O's.

And I'm sure it breaks Masons' heart to hear I don't do there because they have too many customers...

Yeah, labeling it the "best restaurant in the city" is absurd, I can't believe you've read reviewed claiming that. As a college kid, I think they have a great cheeseburger and a good mimosa special, but it's hardly worth a 30m trip navigating through traffic ms whatnot. And I agree about the trash there. I saw quite a bit of losers there, though I don't let them hinder my experience...as for your experience, I just wouldn't order oysters from a place like that. Period.

If something was truly upsetting, horrible, tasteless, poor, disgusting, foul, and not worth it, get a fricking manager next time.

Why? Is the manager unaware of what's going on? Maybe there's a bigger problem if that's the case. It clearly isn't isolated.

People, get bad reviews because they earned them, and a bad review can be much more helpful than a bunch of fluff nonsense if a restaurant cares to see it as helpful.

The poster was descriptive, and detailed, and no, there food really isn't much to write home about, but if people keep blowing sunshine, it will never improve, I guarantee you.

I used to take flack from the Champagne Brunch/Shrimburger Masonites on here for meh reviews, color me unimpressed.

Mason's a mediocre neighborhood joint..I much prefer Jasmine's on the Bayou up the street if supporting a local in that neck of the woods.

My generalized opinion is this: absolutely cannot say this is even close to the best spot in the city, however, the management there has always been very receptive to anything I have had to say about any aspects of the overall experience. I frequently end up there as a result of close associates frequenting it, but have certainly had issues with the service on multiple occasions. Point being, it's not a bad place to chill and enjoy the drink specials, but if you genuinely see or experience something bad then don't be afraid to let them know your feelings. People cannot fix what they don't know is happening. And sure they should be more aware, but regardless, too many people probably leave with the "I had more important things to do" mentality then go back and have another bad experience and wonder why nothing has changed.

I have never done the brunch there, but have had eatten there often. I have come to learn they have good sandwiches and not much more. Never really had a bad experiance with service, but not that great either. Much more a fan of Jasmine on the bayou as well.
