Manning's Review

Our group of 6 went to Mannings on Saturday for lunch. I didn't realize they had built over the plaza area in front of Earnst Cafe! Wasn't that where Bacchus Bash and the Seafood Festival used to be?
Anyways, we walked in at about 11:00, no later than 11:15 and the hostess asked us if we had reservations. I looked around at the half empty restaurant and said, "No, do we need one?" She looked at another hostess who kinda gave a huff and they began discussing where they could seat us. I guess for future reference, you all need to make reservations for lunch at Mannings.
Moving on, waitress comes to table and one person asks for diet coke. They don't carry coke products. Another person asks for draft beer. They don't offer draft beer. I ordered a rum and coke, which was strong but that is fine by me. Another person ordered the bloody mary, which looked really good!
Food ordered:
Micro-chopped Chicken Cobb Salad-pretty presentation and crazy tasty. great portion.
Fried Green Tomato Bacon & Salad-she liked it but wished there was more of it.
Beer & Cheese Bisque-this was good. must love bacon.
Roasted Chicken-was just ok.
Gumbo-liked it, but nothing special
Mac&Cheese-was really good, looks more like spagetti.
Archie Burger-gave it a 4 out 10.
Blackened Chicken ceasar salad-she didn't realize that blackened meant the lettuce would be burned, so this was a thumbs down for her.
Spinach Salad-small portion perfect for a side salad, nice worchestershire honey vinaigrette
The overall ranking on this restaurant would be a 5 out of 10. It was way too expensive for a lunch at a sports bar. The Pepsi products were another strike, as well as no draft beer. Service was fine, but probably won't be back to eat any food. Maybe watch a game and drink, but that's about it.

What kind of sports bar doesn't offer draft beer

Sports bar with no draft beer. WTF

Yeah, I went once while I was visiting home. It's a little more on the pricy side (which is to be expected considering the name), but the food far exceeded my expectations. It's not a place I would frequent a ton, but it's great to have another option for a sports bar (which is something that, for the most part, is truly lacking in New Orleans).
We had the Cochon De Lait Poutine and sweet potato skins for appetizers. The bacon marmalade on the sweet potato skins really made that dish in my opinion. For my entree, I just kept it simple considering the restaurant was only open for a couple weeks at the time. It was one of the # ___ burgers. I don't remember if it was Peyton's, Eli, Archies number, but it was the burger with a fried egg. It also included that bacon marmalade that was on the sweet potato skins. It was good. Not the best burger in New Orleans, but it was pretty good. Nice sized patty...juicy and not dry. That's all I ask.
Come to think of it, we were all drinking bottled beer too so I guess they don't have any drafts set up.

Meh. John Besh warrants a pricey side. He is an established chef in New Orleans. The Manning's are not chefs, this is their first restaurant, and I don't even know who the chef there is.

Yea, they don't serve Coke because they are affiliated with Harrah's.
Service is good and food is fresh and hot, but portions are small. The fried drum was bland and it is very expensive for a sports bar.

The Mannings can't be little bitches when it comes to a draft.

Archie just shows up for commercials and doesn't do shite with the restaurant operation. Harrahs runs this show. The chef, Anthony Spizale, had a great reputation in the past.

This is who the chef is at Manning's? Without me having to google it, what are the restaurants Anthony Spizale owns?

He was the chef at Upperline and the Rib Room before going to Mannings.
I get what you are saying about the price probably being an issue with Mannings. Anything related to Harrahs or that little developement area on Fulton is going to be over priced(except for Ernst).
I will probably go watch games and drink there. Nice place to go to not have to be around some of the less desirables that seem to like sports bars.
The no draught thing sucks.

BRAVO sir.
Seriously, with all the good beer being produced locally and not having it on tap is a huge mistake. And Pepsi instead of coke? I hope that was a Harrah's decision.

If it weren't for the menus being made out of football skin, the bazillion tvs, sports memorabilia on the walls, massive big screen tv, lounge chairs and casual attired customers, and their motto being "eat, drink, cheer", I probably wouldn't even call it a sports bar.

I'm assuming that Gordon Biersch has a clause in their lease that prohibits another sports bar type of operation serving draft on Fulton.

Harrah's has a deal with Pepsi.

False.

So what you're saying is that if you took out all of stuff that sports bars have then Manning's wouldn't be a sports bar?

I'm joking. It's clearly a sports bar. It just doesn't serve draft beer, reservations are preferred and the menu is the classiest bar food I've ever seen.

Sorry, was unaware the Mannings have another restaurant.

why would Gordon Biersch control what another restaurant serves for beer? Does Gordon Biersch own that property and the Mannings are renting it?
