Yeah but it's still on Jefferson which is close to I-10 and I-12. I like the location.

I loved it when it was Schlotzky's.
I've only had one Mama Della's pizza--a Margherita. Was pretty legit. Nothing like a true Italian one, but damn good for Baton Rouge. Have always wanted to try their other varieties, but never got around to it.

Irvine always complains that everything is not seasoned. Then he tells he cooks to add salt.

I think it has to do with the fact that the owner is a complete a-hole that is rude and belittles/yells at his employees in front of customers. I witnessed it and haven't returned since.
Perhaps a draw, but it probably has a lot to do with him actually making pizza, and not opening bags and boxes.

I honestly could see him and Irvine getting into a fist fight. He's a giant a-hole who needs to get popped in the mouth.
...and this is why they were chosen.

Mama Della's has the best pizza in BR.

It's good NY style pizza, but lets face it, pizza just isn't that big in BR. Pastime and Fluer de lis are BR institutions. Thus, they remain popular. For the most part, when your average baton rougeon thinks of pizza, the think of Papa John's, Domino's and Pizza Hut. At least that's what I gather from the 4-5 delivery cars I see rolling through my neighborhood on a nightly basis.
I hope the place stays open

Apart from any issues about the personalities, the place just has about as much atmosphere as a Waffle House. Pizza is good, but it's just not a comfortable or pleasant place to enjoy a meal.

That's the average American... except for maybe someone in NY or Chicago.

Or nj.

That's just a big suburb on NY.

This is true, i never had chain pizza until i was grown and started traveling though.

That is an unfortunate aspect of BR. It is the same thinking that causes people to complain about the proliferation of chain restaurants here. Caring about good pizza isn't necessarily a NY/Chicago/NJ thing only. Lafayette folks often fight over pizza options.
Deanos vs Alesi's vs Pizza Village vs BJ's (and I'm sure I'm missing some other popular ones)

I'm an Alesi's guy myself. I agree with the Mamma Della's assessments so far. The pizza is really good. Maybe more attention and some intervention with management would right the ship? The guy is a curmudgeon, but it wasn't over the top the visits I've had. He seems like he keeps up a thick candy shell of grumpiness.
