Interesting.
I love Mi Padres food, so not hating here on the owners or whatever.. But you're right the prices are a bit much.
Modesto is a great comparison here because their tacos are also creative and "higher end" than your standard ground beef. They're pretty much all between $5-$5.50, and there's 14 options versus the 6 you see here.
Modesto's crudo/ceviche options are $13-$14 whereas here is $15 and $17.
Feels like at $7 (granted I know that's only 1 of them) and with the fact that they're specifically going for high end in the press, your taco options should be like things like octopus, ahi tuna, royal reds, etc. Really quality toppings and in-house made corn tortillas.
I guess I can't hate too much. While it is overpriced, nothing is so egregious that I think your average person will notice. Which is terrible to think about.
This is how everything around us continues to creep in price.

Do we post reviews here?

Someone told me this is not the Mi Padres/Romans people, but is actually the Albasha/Los Reyes people.
Anyone know for certain?
Kinda funny we have two different Lebanese/Mexican combo owners in BR.

Went for lunch yesterday. They really did a great job with the building. Very impressed. Sat upstairs. Service was very good and attentive. I'll admit that I was surprised by the menu prices when I first started looking it over. Ultimately, I think it will be fine for what they are trying to do, but most people are going to balk at those prices, especially for lunch. Had the Cali Burrito, which while not life changing, was very good. Salsa was solid and had a good kick to it without being overwhelming. Can't really judge the food at this point with such a limited experience, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I do think they need to do an advertising blitz pushing themselves as a fun semi-upscale spot asap or they will get some pissed off people looking for casual cheap Mexican food.

It’s the guy that owns Mulberry Market.
Not sure if he’s affiliated with any of the restaurants you mentioned.

Ah gotcha. I got confused for a bit. Father/son ownership mixups.
Mulberry Market will be owned by Kamal Salameh. Salameh owns Albasha, a chain of Greek and Lebanese restaurants with nine locations from Baton ...

Modesto is my favorite Mexican in Baton Rouge, and the happy hour there keeps me going back. Mrs duhlee and I frequent that spot a couple times per month, at least.

Completely agree. We slept on it for a long time, and now it's in the regular rotation.

Alicia's.
The answer is Alicia's. While not "mexican", it is the best south american food in Baton Rouge

I agree. I'll go and try it, but at the end of the day, I’m not going to spend $24 on lunch tacos regularly. I imagine/hope they figure out an ideal pricing model as they move past their honeymoon phase.
They’ve advertised as “upscale small plates” but the menu doesn’t really resonate as that for me.

Alicia’s isn’t the answer if the question is Mexican food
Very good for Honduran/Salvadorian food, though.

It’s not South American either

Just left. Outside is cool but the tacos suck for the price. $100 for 2 people with only 1 drink, shrimp tacos were really strong tasting on a soggy torilla. If that’s what they’re coming with for an “upscale” Mexican spot they won’t last

So what did you actually get?
