re: Looking for Good Food AND Atmosphere in Lafayette

What'd you order?
Two visits. First time, there were two of us. Second time, four.
Food -
Well, pretty much what brought us back for a second time was a couple of excellent apps....a scallop special and the pork cheeks. Items not impressed with: a couple of veal dishes (dredged in Progresso Italian bread crumbs), Fish Katie (fine, but nothing revelatory), a squash trio app special (the ravioli was great, the other two items, meh), crab cheesecake (very little lump crab, much less jumbo lump). Had three of the salads. The heirloom tomato was great. The wedge and one other were good.
Drinks -
First visit we started with a couple of cocktails. Wife orders a French 75. Waiter comes back with a cocktail shaker and martini glass for her "French 75 Martini". Shakes tableside. Pours in glass. Done.
1. A French 75 isn't a martini.
2. A martini glass isn't the proper glass.
3. The drink was shaken with the Champagne, not topped off with it.
I had a standard issue gin & tonic. Didn't order drinks on second visit.
Wine service was affable, if amateurish.
Service -
It's obvious the service staff went through a thorough, corporate-style training program, but they come off as scripted and forced. Even their "banter" seemed like they were reading lines.

To the OP, I'd go with Pamplona on this one. I think Pamplona has the best bartenders in Lafayette and a Tapas style meal seems to work really well when you have a bunch of couples.
X 2- great atmosphere and incredible duck fat fries!

You will be just fine with any of the places mentioned thus far.
I usually endorse Jolie's, but it has a much quieter ambiance than what you are looking for.
Charlie G's is step up from that, in terms of noise/energy.
Then there's Social and Ruffino's.
Honestly, I haven't had a bad meal or experience at any of these.

Pamplona
We (some of the same doing this again) did that earlier this year. Great atmosphere. Food was pretty good. Beer selection...kinda lacking.
Social appears to have a great beer menu.
In the end, Ruffino's, the original thought, sounds good.
Thanks for the suggestions and help!

You're right in that Pamplona has a bad beer menu. If you are looking for a good beer menu, Social is probably your best bet but, if you are up for cocktails, Pamplona is a great option.
Jolie's is great but the atmosphere can be hit or miss. Some nights it's a subdued fine dining type restaurant and other nights it's pretty lively.

I'm not overly impressed or disappointed with it, it's about what I expected.

You can hook me up with a good reservation at the Lafayette location?

Go to Blue Dog and ask to be seated in the bar. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Good food. Nice atmosphere.

2 weeks ago, wife & I went to Marcello's with two othe couples...they sat us at the big (feature-looking) table behind the wine racks near the bar...
Perfect blend of intimacy in a social setting...living in Nola we don't get to see those friends often, didn't regret the decision...
Veal Parm was on point as always...we all enjoyed everything that was ordered...
That table seats 8...would recommend in a heartbeat...

My parents went to Laffy a week or so ago specifically to eat at Ruffino's. Had to take a very late reservation. They're going again tomorrow night to take some Laffy friends there. All they could get was an early reservation at 6:15 which is too early. Any chance of something closer to 7ish?
