Anyone know of a decent andouille in Portland? Trying to make some gumbo and shrimp and grits this week for family over here and forgot to bring some up on our drive here.

Not many options.

Zenners has it at the Bales grocery stores. Don't expect greatness.

They have 3 stores but I've only bought it at the Aloha and Cedar Hills stores.

Just overnight some, it will be better and probably cost less than driving all over town looking for some...

Have someone go to Laplace and hit either Bailey's or Jacob's and ship it to you.

Otto's Sausage

This is in the Woodstock neighborhood of Portland. You can find local andouille at New Seasons or Market of Choice, as well. Olympia Provisions makes andouille, as well.

I used to live in Portland, Whole Foods always had some good Andouille selections. I remember buying some from the location in the Pearl as well as the one on Sandy in the NE.

Funny story, while visiting my uncle in Sacramento about 15 years ago, he wanted to visit a Louisiana restaurant when he picked my wife and me up from the airport. He is originally from Louisiana didn't end up there very often. It was fine with us.

We sat down to eat and I ordered the chicken and andouille gumbo and the waitress corrected my pronunciation of andouille to And-do-E. We all just looked at each other holding in laughter. Once she walked away we fell out laughing...

Thanks for the replies. Jacob's is $21 for shipping two pounds here (price of sausage obviously not included). Might stop by Otto's but I have low expectations for out-of-state butchers when it comes to andouille. If anyone's tried a local butcher for andouille let me know. I'm in Beaverton but willing to travel. Zenner's is near hear but the quality from them seems less than great according to a prior post.

EDIT: Just read a review about Otto's. Woman from Youngsville used some in her gumbo and said it was top-notch. About the only confirmation I needed.

While I don't think they make an Andouille, I have had some great products from Olympia Provisions.

Here is their "where to buy" for Oregon, just in case any of those locations have something that works.

Olympia Provisions does make andouille, I'm just not sure it's available all the time.

Give it a try. Have a sandwich and a beer while there, and report back.

I've tried Aidell's out in California and it wasn't too bad. It may be sold in Wal-Marts in OR.

Otto's has by far the best sausages in Portland. I would go for lunch and just pick some up there. It might not be Louisiana standards, but it's your best bet. Their sandwhiches and sausages are the best you'll find in town.

I saw this at Market of Choice on Barnes Rd, just now. Locally sourced, and in Beaverton, in case you don't want to travel to Ottos. Otto is probably worth the drive if you have lunch there, though..
