Yeah I’m at the point where I will just use Tupperware. I love the idea of a humidor but the good ones are expensive and the cheaps don’t work

Is there any good way of removing mold from a humidor?

I've got one that has been in storage for a while. The humidifier that came with the box isn't the best (one that you fill with water) and I've got mold throughout the box now. None one the cigars themselves since they are individually wrapped but on the wood. If I can save the box I would like to, but not if it will be a constant battle with mold in the future.

I also assume I'll need to throw out everything that is inside.

Great for storage, but as my previous post documented my Wineador build, I have had a stable environment for my cigars, with the ability to display them.

If you are looking for this I suggest researching Wineador Builds, or ask me any questions and I will happily offer the success's I had and issues I ran into. The current look of my Wineador has changed slightly (interior configuration and humidification components) from the picture below.

I had this issue with my wood humidor many years ago. The procedure for me, at that time, was to remove all cigars and inspect each one for mold, even if wrapped in cellophane. Then placed in a ziplock bag for storage until the humidor was cleaned out.

As far as the humidor, a mild vinegar solution was used to wipe down all interior components of the humidor and then placed in the sun, open of course, to dry out. Once dried, interior was wiped down with distilled water to help kickstart the humidification, and utilized typical humidification devices to get the environment stable. Once stabilized, cigars were placed back in.

You knocked that out the park. I only have about 50 sticks, so something like this is overkill for my use.

They make small counter top type wine coolers that people have converted, as well.

Depending on the price you paid for the humidor, I’d just call it a loss and trash it.

I had one a while I paid maybe $30 for, and I didn’t use it for a while. Go to open it up, and found small amount of mold.

I have one “nice” humidor for display and my top notch cigars. All my other cigars, and boxes, I keep in Tupperware containers and bins in my closet.

I’m curious to hear if you notice any significant changes to the flavor profiles of your cigars. With the air being constantly circulated, I bet they will be more pronounced. I’m enjoying a Kristoff GC right now that’s excellent after just resting in my cabinet style.

The one thing that is definite is that there is no mixing of tobacco flavors and nuances as each cigar has its own place to reside without contacting a different type cigar. The cigars are subjected to 30 minutes of low air speed movement once every hour, 24 hours a day, to help keep the environment stable from top to bottom. Minor fluctuations in humidity are akin to the natural environment the tobacco was aged in prior to being rolled. As far as how the cigars taste, I can say that after I smoked my typical cigar last night, the AF 8-5-8, that the taste was if it had just came out of the box. It had all the characteristics of a fresh cigar. That particular cigar has been in their a little over a month and all cigars are stored without the cellophane on them since they do not come in contact with other cigars.

So are they more pronounced? In the early stages I would say yes, but not to the level of overpowering the cigar. It is more like a better balance of the flavors being more pronounced, if that makes sense. Take into consideration that I do not claim to have a sophisticated palate and that I like what I like, and buy the same.

The wineador cooling is a plate style cooling, so there is no forced air from the compressor. That is why there is the separate fan for air movement. In my research I found that most people had good results doing it this way rather than relying on the unit to provide air movement.

Difficult not to get out and enjoy this weather right now. Sun would make it perfect, but the temp is great.

This is what I meant. Professionally kept cigars always produce a balanced smoke with clear changes in flavor profiles as you burn down the cigar. There’s no inconsistency.

'T'was an Ave Maria weekend. Immaculata belicoso is my normal Saturday night. Last night sitting out to welcome trick-or-treaters, had a little Argentum perfecto.

That Don Pepin is a winner. I just lit up a Padilla Series 68. Pretty, pretty good. It’s named in honor of Heberto Padilla, who was jailed in 1968 by the Cuban government for speaking out against Castro.
