I see the advertisement all the time on i49 south of Alexandria, is it any good?

Good pies. I'm not sure if I've ever eaten anything else from there.

It has gotten overpriced for what it is (plate lunches and sandwiches).
But hell if them pies aren’t worth every dime

It’s a snapshot in time and worth eating there as a slice of Louisiana history. I probably can’t separate the food from the nostalgia

used to get their pies pretty often, never had anything else. service is fricking awful

I honestly think their pies are overrated. I found them to be pretty meh

Best ham sandwich ever, but I grew up having those so it’s nastalgic for me. Love the pie esp pecan.

I stopped in for a plate lunch once. It wasn't bad.

Up nawf, they do a good, old fashion breakfast, decent plate lunch, good pies.

Pies good. Food bad.
At least that’s my experience there

Beware. You can find posts going back to 2012 where I'd wholeheartedly recommend stopping there for pie. However, this was my last post about the place in October.
"In that place's defense, when Mr. Lea was still alive, that place was a great little lunchroom. Utterly clean, a nice pitstop at the crossroads of two LONG highways, with great pies and ham. It absolutely was not overrated.
After he died and especially after the interstate was completed around Alexandria and shunted traffic away, quality and business dropped off. The last time I went, the half of the place to your left when you walk in (near the bathrooms) was filled with your standard Louisiana tourist trap crap store instead of tables and chairs. I remember when I was a kid going there for lunch on Sunday to get ham and bring home some pies and that place was brightly lit and slam packed, even the part that's now the tourist trap store. Mr. Lea would walk around the restaurant working PR and customer service, talking to every table that came in, and the kitchen was just steadily cranking out ham sandwiches, ham plates, and pies.
Now, it definitely is overrated. It's dark, the pies aren't great and they aren't special. The ham is meh. The last time I went will probably be the last. It had been years since I'd been and I took a detour to stop by. I paid 20 bucks a piece for mediocre pie and a few bucks each for blah ham on blah bread.
It is now just another sad place that used to be great, but somewhere along the way it lost its business and its soul."
Now, I'd been going to Lea's since I was a kid and in the 90's I'd regularly stop through, so I was once a huge fan. I just don't think they're living up to the legend anymore.

Nowadays, highly overrated, especially the pies. Most choices, you'd be better off getting a Mrs Smith's.
With exception, when in season, their blackberry pie is very good...

Couldn’t agree more. Shell of its former self, overpriced and has a truck stop feel to it now.
Hate to see that as I’ve been going for years but it’s headed downhill.

Crazy how hard it is to find a good pie nowadays.

Seals the deal for me, I won't be going

Over my lifetime I don't even know how many times I've had breakfast there. Bacon, eggs, grits and toast for less than $5.
It's a diner that makes above average pies. Take it for what it's worth.

Clearly not what it was, but I still enjoy stopping for a ham sandwich and a piece of pie. Not many places u can go for such.
