In NOLA this weekend and went to La Boca tonight. All 4 of us got the tasting menu $53 plus paid the extra $5 for either strip, ribeye or fillet. It was wonderful. Started out with black drum bruschetta, 2 different empanadas, chorizo followed by gnocchi then avocado and heart of palm salad the steak and a three dessert plate. One of the best tasting menus I’ve had and I’ve had Commanders tasting menu a couple of times for reference.

Last time We ate at La Boca was probably 4-5 years ago. Then it was nice but not great. Tonight it was great and I would recommend the tasting menu.

La Boca gets my vote for best steak in NO. Seems like they’ve gone by the wayside in popularity in recent years with Doris Metropolitan getting a lot of love. Not saying Doris is bad but it seems like a lot of people have forgotten about La Boca.

Why the boring cuts? Skirt, flank, flap, hanger...did anyone get adventurous?

I wouldn't call it adventurous, but those lesser known cuts of meat are what LaBoca does best. That's why I love the place.

Yeah, nothing about that is adventurous lol, grilled tarantula would be adventurous. People cook with those other kind of meats all the time.

Agree.

Not to hijack the thread but speaking of lesser-known cuts at a steakhouse, went to Brasa and was pleasantly surprised. Skirt steak, picanha and short rib were very good.

Not many people eat skin on skirt steak or wagyu flank at a steak house. The prep they do on a skirt, served with the chimichurri sauce, is a much different experience than your normal steak house cut (like they paid more for). Futile to even respond...I guess your point is more steakhouses should serve the cuts La Boca does, IDevenK?

That's cool, I've eaten most of the cuts they have personally. They are all good, last time I went I just got a T-bone. The only one I haven't had is bone in filet but wife gets that. I was just laughing at your choice of words calling it adventurous, just messing with you. It's all good. Sometimes I go with more well known, sometimes I go with "lesser" known cuts when I eat there.
