Keeping crawfish alive

If kept in a ice chest with some ice, how long will they last? Do plan on pulling the plug, except for the 3 hour ride.

What he said. When we have our big family get together in the late spring we'll get 6 or more sacks and they sit out on a couple pallets under a shade tree and get hosed down every 30 minutes or so. It might be 4+ hours before all the sacks are cooked after they are picked up from the dealer and we hardly lose any in all that time.
And the ones that are dead are kept for catfish bait, so it's a win/win.

Keep them in the sack. Put them in an ice chest and keep ice on top of the sack of crawfish and the ice chest plug open. Have the ice chest cover at least partially open. Also, keep them in the shade.
So, they will get air and will stay wet with the ice gradually melting. But they won't be in standing water.
I've kept them like this for over 24 hours and very few die.

I put bags of ice n bottom, crawfish sacks n middle then bags of ice on top & travel all the time. Just don’t want them held underwater, thus a bag of on bottom will help

What they said. I have crawfish leaving La today to come to philly for tomorrow's boil. Very few will die even with that trip.

Hang them in the shade with a wet towel wrapped around them. Rewet that towel every 12 hours or so and they stay alive for a few days.
Most ice chests will hold a half inch of water unless you prop up one side. You don't want crawfish sitting in water for days.
