Generally, breweries that sell on premise don't undercut the retailers that support them. They know that's not good for business. Retailers and bars that are charging those kind of prices are just gouging. $10 a pint is 300% markup.

$10 is not growler prices even if it is overpriced for a pint. But yeah, it is overpriced. If I walk into a bar and a relatively "normal" pint of beer is $10, I'm getting a cocktail for the same damn price.

What I meant by my original comment is that I could get a growler of a really good beer for that price (obviously, not GitM). Maybe that's not the price in LA, but I suspect that there are places that will do growler fills for around that price ($10-$12) - maybe even places that run specials. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was only trying to make the point that that is really expensive.
I also stand by my point that those prices aren't sustainable. Eventually, GitM will be less of a hot item and people will see the value in a pint of Sweetwater IPA at $5 vs a pint of GitM for $10.50, and the price of GitM will come down. They are just taking advantage of the current market position, where GitM is hot and people are in search of it...

Growler prices vary, and $10-12 is a very good price, but can be found, especially at places that have weeknight specials. One of my usual spots has Barley Brown's Headshake for $11/growler, which is a ridiculous deal for a world-class DIPA.
Another place that I go to has IPAs in the $12-$22 per growler (with the $22 beer being Boneyard's Notorious, which is 12% ABV). That place has Headshake at $18, which just shows how much prices can very.
I think the crowlers are better, all around, though.

Dude...that isn't going to happen. Sweetwater IPA doesn't compare taste-wise to GitM

I get that. It was only an example. Sweetwater makes a very good IPA, though, and at $5, is a very good deal when compared with $10.50 for GitM. You just have to ask yourself if GitM is worth the extra cost. For a lot of people, it won't be worth the cost, especially once they've had GitM a few times.
Right now, there isn't much in BR that compares with GitM. That can change. When there are more great IPAs available, people won't be lining up for GitM, and they will have to lower the price.
