Is there any noticeable difference between the bge and kamado joe grills? Also looked into the grill dome but have heard that they have poor customer service in the event of problems such as cracks in the ceramic.

Can't go wrong with either and my opinion. Great way to cook outdoors, smoke, slow cook, BBQ, pizza.

I've been intrested in getting a char-griller for the longest time with the same principle in mind, hoping to get a cheap alternative to the BGE.

Char-Griller Amazon

From reviews i've read, the Kamado Joe is a great alternative to the BGE FWIW

The akorn is a great entry level grill. Just take care of it as it will start to rust if you leave it uncovered. Mine is going on 2 years and still going strong. I can probably get another 3 out of it and they I will move up.

Yes. Had my Akorn 4 years and eventually rusted out. Even with a cover the humidity got it. Moved to a big joe when Costco was having a roadshow and it is incredible. Much easier to maintain temps and I didn't do any mods like I did on the Akorn.

I've got the classic joe and love it. Very versatile for both smoking and grilling.

BGE Large and it is great. I use it for grilling and smoking especially chicken and beef ribs. It does a better job at smoking at higher temp above 275 than my Backwoods. Anything 250 or lower gets smoked in the Backwoods. The other thing I like to do with the Egg is pizza.

Thanks for the input. Guess I just need to wait for cosco to have the kamado joe in store again. They were 799 for the large earlier thie year. I have seen the bge for 850 for the large.

About 3 months ago I bought the KJ from the Costco event. I did research for 9 months comparing BGE, KJ, KK, etc. and the KJ seemed to check all the boxes. I've cooked on a BGE and a KJ and they are similar. In fact, there are things that I prefer on the KJ over the BGE.

What sold me was the amount of stuff you get for that $799. You get a deflector plate, ash tool, cover, stand, etc. None of that comes with the BGE; for $850 you get...the egg.

I think when KJ started, people were hesitant because they weren't sure that this company would be around long enough to justify the (at the time) ~$600 price. But they've got a great product and great customer service.

Just my 2 cents.

For a ceramic I'd suggest the Primo Oval XL or Jr!

Primo oval XL for sure. I'd recommend a dealer in Baton Rouge - bought my grill from him a few weeks back and he was awesome to deal with it.

No problem with my Grill Dome. About a year or two after buying it, the ceramic grate where the coals sit cracked. GD sent me a new one without an issue. I've had it about 8 years.

I recommend the Primo XL also. I have one and absolutely love it. Get some good accessories and a good lighter and it's on. I love this damn thing. Making some pizzas when I get home.
