What are some go to espresso brands? I’ve tried a Community brand which was good. Tried an Italian style which was really bitter.
Will be honest, I’m not looking for something that will make my head rocket off my shoulders. A more medium bodied brand will do for starters until I work my way up.

We've been buying various kinds from Costco. The favorites have been Mt. Comfort or Ruta Maya.

I wish I knew this before I bought my beans. I’m not a fan of the beans I bought and I bought a lot

Get fresh roasted beans. Try the varieties from Whole Foods as a starter. Super black espresso roast is a misnomer and American idea. Espresso roast does not need to be dark, in-fact a medium roast will give you lots more depth of flavor.
