For BBQ, actually pretty slim/grim pickings in Jack-Town.

Best I can do is send you to Hickory Pit BBQ on Canton Mart Road, one block down from the Homeless guy panhandling under the interstate.

Pig and Pint in Fondren on North State is good. a couple of blocks North of Walkers (First rate grub at Walkers) adjacent to the Capri Theater. Their BBQ Nacho plate is REALLY Good,

Several Sonny's BBQ places in town. They are a chain, but the BBQ is OK.

Little Willies in H-80 in Pearl. Pulled Pork is OK

Dickies in several locations - a chain that is OK

Someone will recommend E&L on Bailey Avenue. Really risky part of town. Might get shot down there, Risk may be greater than "might get shot". I would not send you there, but someone will.

I told my wife about this, and she said E&L might be better during the day because Ambulance service is better at that time, and the ER facilities in Jackson are not as crowded before dark. However, the local TV news teams are pretty good at reporting the details for most of the shootings, so your family should be able to learn how many times you got shot and what color the Camry was - when you get shot while on Bailey Avenue if you go after dark or whenever during the daylight hours after the shooters wake up and start their day.

I'm not bragging or slinging bull around here. I live in Clinton and try as hard as I can to stay out of Jackson at night. All of life is an exaggeration so good luck on your in the Hood adventure. Let us know how it went.

I love my friends from LSU - all of you guys, regardless of what some might think. In the great scheme of things, E&Ls is just not worth it.

This is why Tigerdroppings always comes through!

Thanks to all of you for great suggestions. Will try Pig and Pint with my guests and will head back to E&L during the day when they first open as most of the demons aren’t awake until afternoon.

Pig and pint is pretty decent.

What is the place way down Lakeland on the right like past flowood? It was always decent.

Overall there are a few decent to good places but nothing crazy.

Granted this was the late 90s, early 2000s, but I would go with co-workers to E&L for lunch during the week.

We never had an issues.

I did watch one of my friends eat a pig ear sandwich there one time. They didn't scrape the hair off the ear before cooking it. He didn't care when I pointed it out.

I’ve been to E&L plenty of times at lunch. It’s not the best place in the world, but it’s not what MD makes it out to be either. I always get the rib tips, sauce on the side. I do like to pour them on my fries too.

Yeah. If you go anywhere during the daytime, typically Jackson just isn’t THAT dangerous. Be aware of your surrounding and don’t do anything stupid and you’ll be fine.

And if you happen to be driving through Vicksburg on the way, we’ve got a couple of new (opened within the last year) bbq places. Don Ho’s on 80 and Tommy’s on 61 are both good.

Tommy's on 61 is legit. Tad pricey and the ordering set up is kinda dumb. But the Q is excellent
