Is there a way to make existing beef jerky more tender

A friend gave me a couple of pounds of beef jerky he made. It has a real good flavor but is very chewy and tough. Is there any way to soften it up?

You could shred it up really fine similar to that jerky in a can stuff that looks like skoal.

One key to good jerky is when cutting raw meat cut against the grain. It makes it much easier to eat when done. I don't think there is anything you can to.

This in a nutshell. I buy eye of round when I make jerky and it is a fairly long and cylindrical cut of meat and if you cut across the width you will cut against the grain and the jerky is always easy to chew.
I've got a friend that cuts his meat with the grain and although his has a good flavor, it's like chewing a leather shoe sole.

as above, its likely cut with the grain.
all you can do now is chop it up

If its a case of it being "over dried" making it tough, put a small section of celery and/or carrot in a ziploc along with the jerky. Let it sit for several hours, maybe overnight.

Be sure it’s lean and cut think pieces
