Is this one of those things where brand names make a noticable difference or will a Big Green Egg / Kamado Joe basically do the same thing as the Vision Grill, Outdoor Gourment, Pit Boss versions?

Biggest difference is when you need the warranty.

I have the Pitboss(Costco $600) for almost 2 years now and have been happy with it, it came with the deflector plate and so far my only complaint is that I wish it had a cast grill instead of the stainless wire one but that's just being picky for what I paid. I was concerned I'd regret going with a cheaper option but so far it's held up great, all the hardware is still fine(stored outside with just the cover on it), cooks well, seems to do everything the more expensive options do, I'll be throwing a brisket on it tonight when I get home.

The knock offs cook just as well as the name brands. The difference though comes in fit and finish.

BGE's and komado Joe's for instance are higher quality in build than the vision's of the world.

If you're able, do this. Lift the lid on an BGE or Joe. Move or shake the lid from side to side. It won't move. Do that with a vision and you'll easily feel it flex.

With all that said, I've got a Sam's club vision I've had for about ten years. I got it on clearance for about 375 dollars. I keep it outside and uncovered. Other than some minor rust around the bandings on the lid. It's just fine.

I have a BGE, but if I were to get one today, I’d probably go for the Primo due to the shape. It seems more accommodating for ribs, flank,...etc.

I have a BGE and would never buy another brand solely because of the warranty.

I’ve had my firebox fail and they overnighted a new one no questions asked. No other brand offers that.

Yes. The primo has a superior shape.

I’d go with Primo, no doubt. KJ is the best of the round variants.

I currently have a Primo but used to have a BGE at my house that my Army buddy left at my house while he was in Italy. I’ll take either but I’d have to go with Primo because it’s the only Komodo style manufactured in the USA. That’s what the sales rep told me anyways.

Primo oval XL and haven’t looked back. The sq in and shape sold me from day one.
