It's similar to Fleur de Lis, except nowhere near as good.

I had it the other night. The crust was doughy and it had a funky taste.

Johnny's is ok, but Fleur de Lis is awesome.

When I moved to BR from Shreveport, Fleur de Lis was described to me as "Like Johnny's, but not nearly as good."

I like both.

I can't speak to the comparison with Fleur, but Johnny's is its own style pizza (and damned tasty )

I'm from north la and I think people hype johnny's way too much and thus people are disappointed or find something lacking when they try it.

I mean it can't really compare to CPK, Pie works, and the like because johnny's isn't really about speciality pizza (maybe the sweeps but that's a stretch).

Johnny's is still my favorite pizza around, but I lump it in the category of dominos, pizza hut, papa johns, rotolos, etc.

I'm a pizza junkie (I still say if I could only eat one pizza from anywhere in the city it would be Gatti's) so my opinion shouldn't be taken into account, but i really like Johnny's. I don't get the sweep out the kitchen though. Are those the pizza's with the toppings in between 2 pieces of thin crust?

Well, I first had Johnnys near NLU in the early 80's, but I have not had it in a long time. They were mismanaged in the later 80's, and I believe they almost went bankrupt. I loved their pizza then. I have not had it in a long, long, time. I heard they have a buffet, that can not be a good thing. Their sweep the kitchen used to be the best pizza I have ever had. I do believe it is over hyped. But it is better than papa johns, pizza hut, dominos... It is not a specilty place like mellow mushroom, louisiana pizza kitchen stuff. Hail Johnnys, still think it is the best, need to try it again.

I understand your hesitation with the buffet, but I had it in BR Friday and it was pretty good and fresh. It gives me a chance to try other varieties (like hog heaven, etc.) since I normally just get pep/mushroom or something simple. I heard several football players took over the buffet Sunday. Maybe Johnny's is why they did not have their team meeting then!

I love Johnny's but their buffet pizza blows. It ain't the same as the off the menu pizza.
