Is a Thermopen worth $75?

I cook on a BGE and had always been wondering about these thermometers. I currently use a wireless thermometer for long cook's but always tend to have the crappy analog or pretty bad quality digital.
Is it worth it for $75? LINK

Yes, worth the $$. I paid about $90 for the infrared thermometer with the probe attachment....gives you all the benefits of both kinds at a decent price. The Thermoworks website often has open box specials.

I'm not sure about low and slow grill cooking, but it's been worth it to me for kitchen use and brewing. I love it. Picked mine up on sale for $59 a couple years back. On the grill you'll still need to open the top to check the temp.

Yes, those thermometers are excellent.

I would most likely use this to check different areas of the meat to ensure it is all at the correct temp. The quickness of this does present some value as you don't need to open the lid as long as a thermometer that takes a while longer to reach an accurate reading. I have a maverick remote thermometer that is my constant check thermometer for long cooks. But that is one probe that is stuck in one part of the meat. I would have had a much less stressful Thanksgiving if I had a nice quick read thermometer, I know that much.
Granted most of my use for this would be centered around the BGE, I know that others have many other uses which I have not dabbled into yet.

I've been thinking of getting one for a while. I have the Maverick for my smokes, but wouldn't mind something for quick reads when I'm just doing something simple.
I would have bought it at $90, but for $75, I'm in

I am not wondering if this would be a better choice for my BGE needs. LINK
If you leave your BGE open for 15 seconds, you're gonna lose a ton of heat and have to work to get the temp back. The thermapen is popular because you can open, stick it in, get a fast reading, and close the lid without losing much heat.
I'd spend the extra money, or get one that you can leave in the meat at all times with a wireless gauge.

Sorry I fixed the link while you were typing that message. The one I meant to link was a 5-6 second which is now the accurate link.
The difference I see is that it is 5-6 seconds and has a limit to 209F vs the higher thermopen limit.

Absolutely...

Have one, love it. I use it for meats, candy and most importantly, breads. It has helped me perfect kingcakes, cinnamon rolls and crusty sourdough loaves. It's not flashy, just a rock solid performer.

Would you spend 50 bucks more for a thermopen vs this?

Went ahead and pulled the trigger.
I figure this moment (paying) is the only time I will "regret" it.

you won't regret it. i've got one for backup. actually used it last week to tell how cold it was in our garage when my wife said it was below freezing and the cat needed to come inside. thermopen showed it was a balmy 45* and cat stayed out in the garage

I rationalized that I spent $700 for my egg and put some high priced meat on the grill, might as well splurge a bit for a thermometer that is top of the line.

Get a Maverick wireless for the grill temp. Also has a meat probe.
I have a thermapen. Awesome for instant read meat temps. Can't imagine cooking without one now. Perfect meat fineness every time.

I have one and it has been very handy especially for my overnight cooks.

I have the maverick also, but I'm thinking about getting one of these for when I'm grilling or something.
