I don't have one of these, but I have conventional pressure cookers (like this Presto $25) and I use them for lots of stuff. Red beans, that chipotle barbacoa recipe, meatsauce, meatballs, chili

I was too, but I looked at the relative dimensions of them and tape-measured the space they would take on my counter. That 8 is enormous.

Dad Cooks Dinner blog has a lot of stuff on them. He has 2 kids and says the 6 is big enough for family cooks, with the 8 needed only for large stock cooks and the like.

I got the 6, and I am happy I did. It is plenty big enough for me. I can make enough chili or beans in it that we eat on it for days.

I would get the 8 only if I had a big space where it could sit all the time and not be in the way, I had a big group to feed, and I was going to use it often. The 6 is small enough I can stash it in a cabinet out of sight.

if you have no experience with pressure cookers, is this thing dummy proof?

They have a comparison chart on the Amazon page. Biggest difference I noticed was that this one has a low and high setting where the one that is always $75 only has a high setting. I just pulled the trigger on one. A big thank you to the FDB for once again making me buy kitchen items i didnt know i needed.

I do all kinds of crap in this thing. Nice partis you can sautee veggies/brown meat in there then throw everything else in and switch to pressure cooker.

Get it. I got mine last year and use it all the time.

I also highly recommend America's Test Kitchen Pressure Cooker cookbook. Their recipes are tested over and over and come out perfectly every time so long as you follow the directions.

Hopefully they don't run out any time soon. I just can't decide if I should get one. Everyone is doing a damn good job talking about it on here though.

I just don't think I cook enough.
