Imperial Lager (Costa Rica) - where did this come from?

I've never heard of it until a few weeks ago, but now just about every bar around here promotes the shite out of it and buckets are pretty cheap. Grocery stores are now starting to sell it, too. It's pretty good for a light lager. Much better than the alternatives.
Just wondering, since it seems that it kinda came out of nowhere.

My old man just brought some back from CR, I really liked it.

Yea. I thought it was some Bacardi malt liquor the first few times I saw it. The logo kinda looks similar.

I'll be pounding these fishing in Costa Rica in late May and playing golf. Them boys any good?

the formaldehyde brings down the production cost

Yea they're really good for the style. More flavor than domestics, but still light enough to pound them in the heat.

Thanks I think I will try some

the balance between these two factors is of the utmost importance in the summer for beach/river/etc trips

Yea. I'm an IPA and stout guy mostly, but in the summer when I want something more refreshing, I still want some flavor.

Heineken imports it I believe. I've seen it at bars in 32 oz cans for $3.

if you don't know LSUBoo, you two would get along.
And yeah I like IPA's/dark lagers/stouts but it's just too much in the heat. Plus (IMHO) those beers lose a ton of taste if they aren't very cold... whereas something milder and lighter has less taste to lose. When it gets warm in your hand it's still very drinkable.

I like my stouts cool but not cold. But yea, I agree.

And warm, flat Bud/Miller/Coors makes me gag every single time.
I can handle flat, warm beers if there's some flavor there.
