Not reading this entire thread which I can imagine by this point had dissolved into off-topic bickering...

The Baton Rouge food scene, while not the best, has enough decent restaurants for everyone to enjoy, and depending on their level of adventurous cuisine, numerous places in the ethnic food category.

One can get the standard poboys, Louisiana classics, and burgers at numerous places, but BR also has good Indian, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Greek/Lebanese.

As far as places to get a nice meal, it has at least 4-5 restaurants that serve the purpose, and one of the better ones; Beausoleil - which offers the closest to NOLA dining in BR with a season, changing menu in a relaxed atmosphere.

As far as chains go, BR has the crappy ones and it has the good ones. Places like Bonefish, J. Alexanders, Zea, and ACME Oyster House.

City Pork is an example of unique places doing their own thing at a high level. Same with Magpie Café.

So while BR will never be New Orleans, Houston, Austin, etc in terms of what it can offer, what is HAS to offer is very good and I could eat out at a different place for several weeks. And there are many, many places I love to return to for old favorites and new things.

I agree. I put the smiley there, but the wording was not proper. I am sorry.

The rest of your post is just not the reality for everyone.

From what you have said in the past, you didn't go to LSU for very long and didn't live on campus. So your experience is not like mine at all.

My "deal" is that you don't know what you are talking about, yet talk anyway.

There are lots of reasons kids don't have cars at college.

First of all, I was talking about parents in general who send their kids to a city with an extremely dangerous/limited public transportation system. I'm so very sorry that you happen to be one of those parents, but you know damned well I was not at all directing the statement towards you. You just went crazytown and took offense to something that happened to apply to you.

Back the frick off, and stop acting offended at something that wasn't at all offensive.

I don't care what your reasons are. Do what you want. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about just because I think it's crazy to send your kid somewhere without transportation in case of an emergency (or even if not an emergency). Get off your high horse.

You're being extremely rude and now you're doling out personal insults at people you don't even know because you don't agree with an opinion that was given before anyone even knew you did it. Maybe you need a break from the internet.

I went to LSU for 6 years..

And I have been in Baton Rouge for almost 24.

If I did this, I apologize. I don't recall doing this.

Yea because knowing that sending a kid to a large state university without a car is a dick move is being a know it all.

Agree

I had my own car

Good for you. Not every parent thinks they should hand a kid a car just because they go to college.

quote:

Kids did fine huh?

Great as a matter of fact.

No, they decided on cars because they needed them. They were probably sick of aggravating their friends for rides or being that guy, who when everyone goes out, never is the driver and spends every night getting drunk because they dont have to drive home.

The more nonsense you spout without having any facts or knowledge of circumstances, the more like a know it all you become.

I'm not talking about buying your kid a car. I'm talking about kids who already had cars whose parents didn't allow them to bring it with them to a city with basically NO pedestrian traffic at all.

Not really. We've learned that the food scene in BR sucks because shitty parents send their kids to LSU without giving them cars.

Shame. It was good for a while. Who knew bringing up something like students with no transportation would make someone so offended?

I still think it plays into students not leaving campus and help the food scene (back on topic).

But I think students have little to nothing to do with the big picture.

True.

Responding in kind is not an excuse.

It's pot and kettle.

The facts I have is that your kids were at college without cars. Unless they were hermits and had no friends, it's a safe bet they were a burden on their friends because they always needed rides. Its just the way that dynamic works.

I doubt their situation was much different if they were at a school like LSU.

I read this a bit differently:

"How can any parent send their kid here without a car unless they want their kid (a) killed or (b) never leave campus?"

and I have apologized (to you, not Captain Kangaroo. Yet).
