I think Zealand (spll chk?)is a good choice where they SHOULD go.
I thought a minute about Pocorello's, and realized they only have a few things on the menu that are really good (love the place itself and the atmosphere though).... problem is, i don't see Pokey and the fam sharing any recipes with Guy Fieri.

Where would they go?
New Orleans, maybe?
Diners etc has already done features on atleast 3-4 NOLA places.. they even did a feature on Louie and the Red Headed Lady in Mandeville.

There are at least a dozen more deserving places in nola than any mentioned herein

Why you have to be a douche in all threads that talk about baton rouge?
Posted on 2/13/11 at 4:11 pm to BeeFense5
Zeeland is literally the only place deserving. Br lacks this type of place. Nola has plenty so does laffy. Just stating facts. If you don't like it sorry.
This thread has me craving some zeeland though.

But, since the thread title is:

Br lacks this type of place

Mike Willies on Cloverland. Best kept secret in Baton Rouge. Awesome burgers

Because he's the biggest douchebag in the history of the internet.

From Food Network:
"Join Guy Fieri as he visits classic "greasy spoon" spots..."
Why doesn't BR have anything like this?
If they will do a show with Matthews Cafeteria (Tucker, GA) then Louie's, Pastime and George's would seem to qualify.

I don't think that's necessarily the worst thing in the world
Most of the places I see on that show aren't really that intriguing to me. It seems like they're just run of the mill dives that might have one unique item that they are famous for. BR has plenty of decent dives. It's just that they're mostly ethnic and/or run of the mill that don't have any gimmicky items on them.
I have other complaints with the BR dining scene other than the lack of dives. It's just not that important to me. I can find good food when I go there. I don't care if some douche like Guy visits or not.

I would say places like Zeelend, Chelsea's, and past times would probably qualify. I've never really understood the love for George's. Of course I used to live close to the South side location and I've heard the other one is better.

And to be fair there are probably a few in BR that are more deserving than any of the ones mentioned here. I mean half the thread is people like you who don't live in Baton Rouge complaining about it.

So only people who live in a city have the right to complain. I'm up there for business a lot...I have tried almost every place mentioned consistently on this board. I am more well versed on br restaurants than 90% of the population there.
I call it like I see it. With a couple of exceptions, I would prefer what I have found on laffy.
When I really enjoy a br place, I really go out of my way to say so (zeeland, ginos, stroubes though they are now losing their chef so I wouldn't suggest it until I try it again).
It shocks me though that people pimp places like parrains, ruffinos and sammys

You have ideas for more deserving places? List them. I have to go up there this week again. I will try it.
Posted on 2/14/11 at 12:39 pm to Tiger Attorney
For Powerman and TA
Based on Food Network's criteria, I don't think the place has to be overly unique or overly good.
How do you define deserving? (for the show, not for yourself wanting to go there).
I don't think George's is all that either, but I can see it on DDD. I can also see Louie's on the show.
