Love the sweet grilled cheese idea....I’d swap sliced strawberries for the bananas.

But I’m still thinking about frozen things, since this is a beach vacation. How about old school southern frozen fruit salad? It’s a cream cheese/whipped cream/buttermilk frozen loaf, studded with fruit (usually fresh strawberries and/or cherries), mini marshmallows, coarsely broken vanillla wafers, chopped pecans, etc. Here’s the Matt & Ted Lee version: LINK

That would work too. FWIW, first time I had the grilled cheese it was served with a coffee ice cream which put it over the top. When I made the one in the photo, I left it out.

I would eat it, but I’ve seen enough top chef to know that that place is a fricking mess.

This reminded me of a recipe I haven't made in years, but it's so tasty in hot weather. It's also a breeze to make.

Terrific Tortoni

serves: 12

1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
1/4 cup strawberry preserves
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, whipped stiff
24 vanilla wafers, broken not crushed

Blend the marshmallow creme, preserves and extract. Fold the broken wafers into the whipped cream. Fold this into the marshmallow creme.

Spoon into cupcake cups. Garnish with more preserves. Freeze. Transfer to fridge 15 minutes before serving.

Yum.

My top list so far
- hungry1 strawberry loaf
- choc eclair cake thingie
- th03/powerman challah bread pudding
- bananas foster
...
- tres leche/awesome cake but I'm a little worried about trying to make a cake with limited kitchen supplies in Florida

I'm really intrigued by the garden and gun article about the strawberry loaf

This looks amazing! Do you think adding a few blueberries would work to make it red, white, and blue for the 4th of July?

Cad, a snickers bar and a cold glass of milk is pretty good, beachy and cutting edge.

Economical, decent prep time and long shelf life.

You might need to camouflage it a bit though?

If you consider cheese a dessert I recommend baked brie - top it with some cherries or dates, almonds or walnuts and honey.

Looks amazing tastes good and easy to make.

Indeed. Frozen, sweet, crunchy, fruity, AND a holiday color theme. If you're pitching down the middle, it's a hit.

Now, if you're hanging with the purist/less is more/everything from scratch crowd, they may scoff at the storebought cookies and marshmallows. Know thy audience....
