I had Popeyes chicken tenders today for the first time in years.

I was leaving Mandeville and wanted to hit CFA before heading back to BR. The traffic was too heavy. Cane's was not an option on 190, so I decided to give Popeyes a chance. I honestly think Popeyes is normally rather average, but their tenders and fries made me sick today. They were fresh out of the grease, but I would have rather had over-salted Zaxby's! The chicken literally tasted like grease. No flavor, and the fries were a soggy mess.

The biscuit was damn good, though, but the tea was even sub-par compared to CFA and Cane's.

CFA > Cane's > Zaxby's > Popeye's

Anyone else feel this way?

Yep

It was very clean. The staff was very polite and professional. All which is absent from BR locations.

I've never had a bad meal at Popeyes. Maybe they don't like you. Did you notice the off taste of spit in your chicken?

I was in a hurry and fell for the Popeye's $5 for 5 boneless wings, biscuit and a side. The biscuit was good, the seasoned fries were greasy but good, I don't know what part of the mutant chicken these 'boneless wings' came from. They weren't wings, they had this strange chewy, rubbery texture, weird.

I guess it will be another 5 years before I try Popeye's again.

Don't sleep on the blackened tenders. They are very good, especially when you're on a diet and looking for a decent option.

We were passing through Houma yesterday and planned on Popeye's for lunch but decided to see if an old chicken joint down the street was still there. It was. Enjoyed some Danny's Fried Chicken, rice dressing, onion rings and fried gizzards. So damn good.

I have had this experience at a few Popeye's over the years. I think I am finally done.

I don't get the love for CFA. (Let the downvotes fall like rain). Their service is awesome, but I can't get over that hint of dill pickle juice I get every time I take a bite. I'm going to Cane's if I want a good chicken tender.

The actual fried chicken is hard to beat at Popeye's. A couple of weeks ago my wife got the tenders, they weren't awful but they were not even in the same ballpark as my dark and spicy. To me it's almost like the tenders and the actual bone-in pieces come from two different fast food joints

NWLA Popeyes seems to be a mixed bag. Don’t think I’ve ever been in the drive thru and not been asked to pull up and wait, which I don’t mind that much if it’s fresh. But like 1/4 times it’s not right order or not fresh.

Did you get mild tenders or spicy ones? I've bought the mild before for the kids, and they did taste kind of bland IMO. The spicy ones are good though.

It's friggen fried chicken strips. Sometimes they're good sometimes they're bad. You have a $8/hr high school drop out serving them up, don't expect much and be surprised if they're good, you'll go through life much happier.
