What is the ratio of weight of the discarded shell to the actually meat eaten?

I'm thinking 1 lb eaten for every 3 lbs, but I honestly have no clue.

10 pounds of boiled crawfish roughly turn into one pound of tail meat

Most people fill up on beer, corn and potatoes, not crawfish.

I always laugh when people say 3lbs is enough for 1 person. That doesn't even begin to get me started.

Haha! I totally agree. When I do boils I calculate 6 lbs for men and 4 lbs for women. I don't care what anyone else says. 3 lbs a person doesn't work

I usually just do 5 lbs across the board. If I end up with leftovers I'm cool with it. I'll grab a couple brews and get to peelin. Nothing beats good boiled crawfish leftovers.

It varies and mostly depends on the size of the crawfish but you can expect anywhere from 10% to 20% yield.

Bigger crawfish yield less
