You can get it without rice and avoid "crunchy" or anything with a mayo sauce.
Paleo for lent and no meat Fridays led me to sit at a sushi bar and order just that a few weeks ago. Wasn't bad either.

Y'all ever seen a fat Chinaman? There are over 1 Billion Chinamen, Chinawomen, and Chinachildren on earth. I'd venture to say they don't have 100 obese Chinapeople.
Sushi/ rice/ saki/ poo-poo platters, etc are healthy for all people.

Where you run into trouble is the loads of sodium in the soy sauce.
sodium isn't bad for you if you are healthy, you have to have known hypertension to be an issue. A couple articles have come out on this recently.

Wrong country man. Chinese food, as we know it here in the U.S., is not very good for you.

Sodium really isn't that bad for you unless you have high blood pressure. The body regulates that system pretty well.
This.
On days where I consume a lot of salt, I drink a ton of water and also run. Gets the salt out my system just fine.

Add the Japs to the list and now you're close to 2 Billion thin oxygen consumers!!

It definitely has to go towards fat content of the fish and more so on the rice. Typical sushi rice is generally white, which can be fattening at high doses, plus the mix... which usually contains mirin (40-50% sugar), and sometimes more sugar is added by itself.

Well if we're saying that rice is bad for you, then he is referring to the chinese. Chinese people eat rice twice a day (lunch, dinner) and the amount they eat is a hell of a lot more than what they put on a couple of rolls at the sushi bar. Again, not a whole lot of obese chinese people are there?

I've gradually opted for more of a sashimi salad with less rolls and it's generally pretty damn good and very healthy.

While were on the topic of sushi, anyone got any good specials around the NOLA area? Thinking about grabbing some sushi and a drink after work sometime this week.

For the best atmosphere, go to rake n sake in warehouse district. It's like a damn nightclub in that place.

A lot of places serve a cucumber-wrapped (no rice) roll; many of which are quite good.

Will have to check that out. Never heard of a cucumber wrapped no-rice roll before.
