There is just too many good places to eat a good po boy. And you don't go to Dom's for the RB.

In fact nobody ever (from NOLA or not) has ever given me that place as a rec. I wasn't even that familiar with it until I saw it on the PBS sandwhich show.

Yep. I've never had anyone say I should go there when I inquire about poboy shops.

I had a cochon poboy there once that was one of the most bland things I've ever eaten. Tasted like it had no seasoning whatsoever.

Wait time is similar to other places. Pretty damn good, but it's the new kid on the block.

I got the jumbo fried shrimp w/ fried green tomatoes and remoulade. They're also known for their 'peacemaker' which is their fried oyster...but I'm not too keen on oyster poboys so...

Just so we're clear I wasn't trying to say that at all in my OP.

I was kind of ribbing you. You mentioned recommendations from 'natives' in your OP and this just insinuated that their opinion matter more to you. It's okay if you think this way...most people, including myself, do. The locals know child. The locals know.

I just think this is an abberation. If you ask Uptown folks "name some places where I can get a good shrimp poboy" Domilise's is 9/10 somewhere on that list. Along with Guy's, Mahoney's, Parkway, etc. In fact, the way I discovered Domilise's was by word of mouth by a local. I was day drinking at Grit's just a few blocks down the street and was starving.

Some great, borderline gourmet po-boys. Some are better than others..Definitely expensive as far as po boys go. Root bear glazed ham and cheese is a knockout

I love it, not my favorite, but still very good.
It used to be my favorite until I was introduced to Guy's. It's still my 2nd favorite.

ETA: Only had Mahoney's once. Their fried green tomato poboy is horrible and their pork chop poboy isn't much better.

Seriously. They pretty much quarter large green tomatoes and then batter them up etc. As soon at you take a bit out of it, the batter falls off and the tomato slides off the sandwich. A fried green tomato should be SLICED, not cut into big chunks.

I don't think tourist go to eat the best food. They go just b/c they saw it on tv and can say they ate at the same place that Man vs. Food was. I am one of those people. This weekend I went to Juan in a Million in Austin, TX just b/c I saw it on Man vs. Food. It was cool to eat there. The food was average.
