Yeah I think garlic and sausage are at a dead even tie for me at #2.

I'm coming into LA in a couple weeks for a family gathering, and it was requested that I boil crawfish. I said sure, but based on when I land, I'll need help with the prep so we can get boiling immediately.

I made a list of everything, and sent it to our group e-mail about it. My aunt responded with "well, unfortunately there will be no sausage because it's a Lenten Friday."

What the frick is this shite? I don't observe that, and a lot of other family members of mine don't either. Why can't we add the sausage and if you don't want to eat it, don't fricking eat it? Am I crazy for being annoyed by this?

No, you are 100% justified. If they don't want to eat the sausage, they don't have to eat it.

Plus the entire concept of not eating "meat" on Fridays during lent but seafood is somehow okay is full retard... but that's a different topic.

Nah, get sausage and if they don't want it, they don't have to eat it. It's not your responsibility to make sure I don't eat meat on Friday and it's absurd to imply that. If they have no self control to see sausage and not eat it, it's on them.

I put corn after potatoes, but they're close as well.

It’s anti-Cajun and doesn’t go with crawfish at all. I feel like it’s something yankees would do, but so many people seem to enjoy this delicacy.

It's terrible. It's not the best way to prepare sausage, and only adds even more fat to the water. I no longer let people add it to mine, as they are not having to clean the pot.

Cleaning my pot after a boil may be the easiest part of the entire day. Hose, scouring sponge, dish soap. Clean in a couple of minutes.

No, you aren't crazy. Cafeteria Catholics are the absolute worst. Boil the crawfish with the sausage and if they don't want to eat it, they don't have to fricking eat it.

Or if you want to compromise, which I wouldn't, you can throw the sausage in the hot water after pulling the crawfish. Let the sausage soak a good 20 minutes or so and it should be good to go. Therefore the crawfish wasn't cooked with the evil devil meat.

Agreed it's fully retarded, but I read the difference is you aren't supposed to eat "warm blooded" animals, which is why seafood, turtle, alligator, etc are all fine.

So it makes sense while also being fully stupid. Have plenty of Catholic friends showing off giant fried seafood platters and "lamenting" the struggles of being Catholic in Louisiana.

No, apparently the 2 pounds of sausage in the 100 gallon pot adds a film that even dish soap can't remove!

I agree. It's all displayed in your post about how difficult it is to clean your pot because of sausage grease

Willing to bet you haven't cleaned a pot in your life.

Also, let me know in my post about Lenten struggles where I'm wrong. I'll wait.

I appreciate everyone's reassurances that I'm not crazy.

It's also extremely annoying because living in New England, it's not like I have countless opportunities to eat boiled crawfish. We do one boil up here a year and that's usually all I get unless I happen to travel home during the season. So if I'm going to do this, I want to really do it right.
