I've been saying the same thing for years. One of the most overrated chains out there.

By overrated I don't mean terrible. It is consistently good, but not worth the wait, prices and snobby attitude.

Anyone comparing Houston's to Chili's, watthefrickever, puts their credibility into question. Seriously.

Houston's is overpriced, no doubt, for a general "American food" chain restaurant. But their food is fresh and made daily in house. It is well made fare, and it's far superior to a lot of the comparisons I've ocassionally seen on this board. I don't get out to Metairie much, but I hit the Houston's on St. Charles somewhat regularly (lunch during the week, after a movie, before a game, etc.). Probably once a week or maybe ten days.

It literally is the only "chain" restaurant that I frequent other than when I have no other choice. There are well-heeled regulars at the St. Charles location who eat at fine dining establishments, but they like the food and they like the staff. The haters can frick off.

I also know a little bit about the Hillstone group and George Biel. They're kind of a strange breed, but very successful. I'm certain Metairie wasn't losing money.

The hickory burger was my favorite burger in town before Company Burger, LPG, and the rest that rolled in since Katrina. Pretty much a fancy Bud's #4 plus canadian bacon minus risk of food poisoning. I still go to the St. Charles location once a year to sit at the bar and enjoy one as comfort food for the positive memories eating there with my parents.

Remember after Katrina when they made St. Charles spot into "Gulfstream" (another concept in same ownership group)? That did not last long before turning back into Houstons.

I said it has the feel of a luxury chili's. I agree, food is more then tolerable but they don't have any food I want that I couldn't get elsewhere for less.

I love this excuse. "Well, other rich people like it so it's ok that I enjoy it."

Just make better choices.

Chain or not, one of the best club sandwiches around. The hickory burger was the titties as well.
