However, Candente is my personal favorite for Tex Mex in town.

Very good too. But the reason I always go to El Tiempo, is because of the atmosphere. Candente is a bland/modern atmosphere that I’m no longer a fan of. Nothing better than 3 margaritas and a Parrillada Feast in the cozy cantina atmosphere of an El Tiempo.

one more concurrence on the old school carnitas. We always order mixed fajitas, 2 reata plates (cheese enchiladas, tamale, and crispy tacos) along with the old school carnitas.

What do you consider and old school carnita?

I have been to the main one a few times and have always enjoyed it. Like someone has said I like the atmosphere as it feels more like you are out doing something as apposed to the normal restaurant feel. They just opened one in the Kingwood area and am curious do they all copy the atmosphere ?

Bump. Went to the new Kingwood location today and it was fantastic. I had the carnitas on recommendation from another poster and the wife had beef fajitas. Both very good. My last visit was at the Montrose location and I honestly didn’t think it was that good. Glad to have them up here in the burb.

I've only had it catered, and even then it was fricking amazing. When COVID is over I hope to get to try it at the restaurant when it's fresh.

Looked through the pics on Yelp for Candente and started drooling.

Here in Charlotte, the only thing close to that is a place called Superica. I believe there's one in Houston too. If anyone's been there, how does Superica compare to Candente or Original Ninfa's?

Superica is good if you don’t have the option of El Tiempo or Original Ninfas. Candente’s atmosphere is too modern for me, so I really don’t go (food is great however). I think Superica is below all those but better than Lupe in many dishes.

That being said, Superica is a Georgia chain that tries, does decently, but is below the greats. And too fancy. I like my Mexican dinners to look like ZZ Top’s Très Hombres album

escalante's

Wife and I have set and hung out there for a snack and ritas in Sugar Land Town Center a few times. I actually like the ceviche, but everything else is a huge step down from El Tiempo and Ninfa's, in my unprofessional opinion.

Man, I just can't get the love for that place. It's not bad, but for the packed wait time to sit at times coupled with the prices, just not digging it. I just as soon relax at the above mentioned Escalante's instead.

As lots of posters correctly pointing out, the steak fajitas/carne asada at El Tiempo is top tier fantastic.

However, last time we went I changed it up a bit and decided to give the Redfish “la Tana” a try. Topped with Serrano peppers, garlic & cheese (I had them leave off the cheese), and it was delicious. Would absolutely order again.

Thanks for this bump. I was wondering about that location. Hopefully I will hit it up soon. We are just used to cheaper joints that are everywhere so I assume my brother with bitch about the price.

I see a Tampico Seafood on Airline. The Tampico on N Main appears to be an ice cream place.

Lunch for two was $41. A little more than our usual Rancho Palomas or Rancho Viejo. The quality was definitely worth it and we had 2 to go boxes for leftovers. There was a shrimp tostado on the menu I’d like to try but the carnitas was so damn good.
